Made this Shawn Morgan(13) endorifle for a good buddy.

That turned out beautiful!

Thank you!

Don't leave it out in the sun too long though! ;)

That looks great!

If I was to say one thing it's maybe have varied blacks from semi-gloss, satin and flat. That would make it look like it was made from different materials.

Looks great though!! You can't go wrong with Shawn and Tim's help!!

Thank you. I do not know how to do the black variations? This was the first kit of this size and type for me. All advice will be greatly appreciated!

If you look at an M-16 for instance, the plastic pieces have a different color, specularity and texture than the metal parts. Clips are usually weathered different than the gun since they are either stored in the ammo holder or dropped on the ground a lot.

Also, if you start with black, you can't go darker. Mix a little gray in there rather than full black and you'll be able to do shadow areas more realistically since you can darken the base color.

Ok, thanks!

(I've all too familiar with M-16, .45, and M-9. but had not thought of them while making this prop/kit.)

Great job. I agree with Too Much Garlic, it looks like it could be a real and functional gun.

Don't be afraid to share any details about the construction with us. :D

Thank you. Very kind.

I asked a ton of questions and every was generous with advice and tips. Great sharing of knowledge. I used Shawn's methods, just wasn't able to make it look as good as his does.

Thanks! I wanted a used but fairly "factory fresh" look to it. Since the top coat is Dupli-Color Sandable Black primer that's been wiped off in places with "odorless" (my ass, this stuff stinks) mineral spirits, if you handle it, the primer comes off on your hands. Is there any safe way (other than not touching, holding or caressing it) to prevent this from happening?

I used a garden hose to rinse off any mineral spirit residue, then an air compressor to blow off the water, didn't think water spots would look cool. It's still a little wet in spots.
