Is anyone going or ever been to The Mad Monster Party?

    Charlotte, NC - March 23-25

    Mad Monster Party Home page

Rutger Hauer is going to be on a Blade Runner panel with James Hong and Joe Turkle.

Brad Dourif and others also attending.

Sounds like it might be fun.

I live in Charlotte about 6 blocks from that hotel and have never heard of it. It looks like this is the first one. Definitely have to check this one out.

Saw the thread title and got all excited thinking it was a discussion of the 60s stop motion film...

I see it's available on Netflix streaming. I might watch it this weekend.

I wonder is anyone will wear costumes to this event? I got a few pieces of a Ghostbusters uniform. Might be able to finish it before then.

I was wondering the same thing. The only con I've been to is DragonCon, so I'm not sure what happens at others. I was also wondering if there are any late night/party type events, or if it shuts down a 8 or 9.

    Go in costume!

I have NEVER been to a Con not dressed in TOS Trek or TOS Battlestar Galactica.

You might be the only one but who cares! :lol

    Hi there!

My buddy sent me this thread, so I figured I'd pop on and answer some questions. You are ABSOLUTELY encouraged to dress up, many fans will and the Party definitely continues after the dealer room closes! We will have an event program up soon, but there will be after-Party options, screenings, bands, stage shows, a Haunted House walkthrough (with celebrities for our R.I.P. passholders), and more. For the latest info (if you're on Facebook)....

Sounds cool but I'm a little disappointed that it wasn't about the old movie by the same name. :p :lol

    (I've always loved that film)

So it looks like there is going to be a Blade Runner panel, but is there going to be a screening of Blade Runner? Really hope so.

Figured I'd revive this thread since the Con starts tomorrow. Anyone else here going? They've been advertising pretty good, had some guests on the radio here this morning and even had a full page ad in Fangoria, so it should be a good sized event. See ya there.

I just got back. I know some of you go to events like this all the time, but I have never been to any sort of convention ever!

Saw a few vehicles when I first arrived.

Christine (said it was screen used)

The truck from The Duel. (I've never seen the movie, but they said it was screen used also.)

Ok, this one is decidedly NOT screen accurate, but it was still cool.

My main reason for attending was the BLADE RUNNER panel. I am a huge Blade Runner fan and was excited to meet Rutger Hauer, James, Hong, and Joe Turkel.

Rutger and Joe were running late, so James Hong got up and entertained the crowd. HE IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!

He doesn't show any signs of being 83! He mentioned he was in movies with Groucho Marx and Clark Gable. He danced around with one of Lo Pan's concubines.

The panel was excellent. I enjoyed it very much. Joe Turkel said he regrets not doing as well as he thought himself capable of. He was dealing with his father who was seriously ill at the time, and had a hard time preparing for the role.

Out of all the events, and people I met, surprisingly Joe Turkel had the biggest impact on me. He is an amazing guy. I talked to him for a while after the panel. He had a lot to say about how much he admires Stanley Kubrick. He is very funny, insightful, and has a great outlook on life. His optimism is contagious. The things he had to say are still running through my head. I am fortunate to have met him, even for a moment.

He WAS great! The banter between him and Rutger was really funny.
All in all, it was a really nice show, especially for its first year. They already have planned it again for next year too.
I made it out Friday and Saturday til around 2am. Even though there weren't a whole lot of costumes, I decided to dress up for Saturday night. Here's one of the pics I had taken.
As soon as I go thru my camera, I'll have some more shots to post.

It was. I haven't heard info on how many attended, but a friend who was at both, said it was much bigger than the "Days of the Dead" one in Atlanta. I'll definitely be back next year.
