Mad Max: Fury Road - Nux Bird Bobblehead

cold water.
Sorry Clarence, I'm not sold on the "4 feet" theory either! Looking back at the pic Nick Daring posted from the front of the car, I see two bolts and a chunk of unidentified metal at the base. Nux's bobble crow.jpg

View attachment 488100 We obviously see different things as I see Feet or something definitely not a bolt but no doubt when its found we will all know sorry my man I'm sticking with feet certainly on this pic

We obviously see different things
Quite true! Do you see "feet" on the windshield shot that Nick posted? There could also be more than one bobble-crow! Many of the cars had "stunt" versions that may not be identical to the "originals". Until we get a better close up from all angles, the world will never know!

I don't think this bobblehead thing had that much importance in the film to merit an understudy it only has to bobble there's something going on with that base but how do We get a good pic .We have to soldier on and if we want to make one at present we must just do it as our own interpretation as we see it.One day someone will see the base in a box of junk and recognize it as the Elusive bobbling bird head base

I was looking through the hardware store a couple days ago and saw a couple valves that looked very similar to the base had some cuts been made and the wheel removed.

I can't say what it is on the back of the thing, but it does look like some sort of bracket to hold the base in place on the dash. Whether or not it's a part of the base or not, I can only guess.

Let me pop this into the mix - I popped into Photoshop a bit this morning and squeezed some detail from the shot in the art book, as well as the previously posted reference:

For your consideration, I humbly propose we're looking for something cast iron with mirrored flanges meant to be bolted down. I see rivets in Nux's car. Seems to look sort of like this:

bird base sketch.jpg

With or without the hole in the side which could be meant for either a pin to stop a shaft from rotating, or maybe just a hole drilled by the production? There is another symbol to the right of "UP" which I can't quite make out, but doesn't appear to be a letter to me.

Also, a tiny nubbin that may or may not be part of the casting:

A few thoughts, I found some screw jacks are similar, but with the help of that image logan posted, maybe a background film lighting fixture arm clamp of some sort?

Thanks Logan, this adds another "level" to the prop.
Looks like a broken flanged base below the center (UP) shaft,
2 rivets / screws are now visible opposite from each other.
I'm guessing 3 vertical "feet" were on it originally, spanning the gap between the base plate and the side of the UP shaft, for strength. I guess 3 by the angled placement of the visible ones.
I'm still thinking the Throwout Bearing idea might work, only add the throwout bearing retaining shaft below it. Here's a pic of a 1930's retaining shaft.36 37 38 39 Ford Car.jpg

Bobble Crow (4).jpg] This pic makes me think there's a 2nd nut on the far right side, this would be opposite the one to the right of UP. Might be what holds the spring to the iron?

I'm holding out that this is a minimally modified found item... Right now I'm trying to find the right 'family' of items to search for - High probability it's a vintage auto part...

I'm thrown by the wider ring at the 'top' or open end, what purpose does it serve? Mechanical or purely decorative?

Browsing for cast iron items with a smooth bore and 2 hole flange....

If any one can get a hold of the production designer or one of the people on the team that worked on this car (it's said that there were separate teams working on each car for the film), this would go a whole lot faster.:lol

I thought about it, but in case it would one of those "we just pulled a bunch of cool parts and made it"
Same scenario with the steering wheel, I really done thick they even know what year it cam out of or the person that sourced the junk vintage auto parts didnt note it.

Also, who's to say they didnt find this at some junk trinket shop and used it. There are artist that do this sort if thing too.

There are some prop guys listed in IMDB for the film. I saw one guy but couldn't find contact info, I don't have an IMDB pro account. Maybe someone who does can check.
Not expecting those guys to know necessarily but they might be able to pass on the questions.

If I may humbly submit my theory on what the base is. It's something that no one on here has thought of. Although it does look like a cast iron clutch input for pretty much any car, it doesn't really line up. So I started looking at things I've seen at where I work, and thus I found this...

It's a Josam Cast Iron Body Assembly Base Model 30003. I don't know if this helps any, hope it does.

I looked up the prop makers also, it turns out one of them is a sculptor with his own website, I'll see about posting the info in a bit.

I don't see a seam where two parts come together anywhere on the base - not to say it couldn't have been filled by the prop department and painted over, but I kind of doubt it.

That said - this piece with a 2 hole mount looks to have a hole in the side for a 'anti-rotation pin' with very similar placement to the piece we're looking for:

Does it mean anything? I dont know.

OK. This is my final attempt this bird its giving me the bird right now I seem to have lots of different ones!!! Please don't change the shape of the base anymore Here We GoDSC00450.JPGDSC00452.JPGDSC00451.JPGDSC00453.JPG and that is my final attempt
