Mad Max Furiosa

Of course he was real( well in the movie sense of the word!), again things were consistent in the first three films. Have fun with it with your own interpretations of course, although Fury Road was a fun ride I enjoyed, I still think Mad Max 2 was/ is the best in the series so far!

I just roll with a sort of in universe explanation, that the films are the verbal tell with inconsistencies.
I think even today we have recent history that gets a little screwy, Simply to be satisfied that there was a Max, and he did most of these things, just not sure which ones or perhaps when exactly but somebody did and that's how humanity crawled back on the map. Max gets all the credit. LOL

Just got out of the theater, I enjoyed it but with caveats.

I went in to this knowing in the deepest bowels of my soul that this wasn't going to be Fury Road. Fury Road is Fury Road. While I was curious about the news that this prequel was going to happen, I knew that this movie and story was ultimately unnecessary but I appreciate that we as audiences get more of the world of Fury Road.

After seeing the movie, my feelings still haven't changed. It's entertaining but not at all necessary in adding anything to what was already seen and hinted at in Fury Road. This is essentially a "lore-dump" for Fury Road that was written to inform the world-building for that movie, so take that as you will.

Before I get to griping, it must be reiterated that the best thing about these entries into "new Mad Max" thus far is the the world constructed for the stories' setting. It all the best elements from the original three movies, supercharged. All the props, costumes, make-up; the levels of consideration for every detail that peppers the making of both movies is the absolute highlight of either entries. The work just shines and it blows away any digital asset. That said, Furiosa has levels more CG in this that Fury Road did, and the levels of practical stunt work in Fury Road remains unmatched. While still exciting, the set pieces in Furiosa are heavily reliant on CG in both the stunt work and the scenery. Furiosa was shot in the same location as the original three Mad Max films but has been digitally altered to look like the heightened Namibia location for Fury Road, and then some more. It's a pity because the movie lacks a certain grit and texture that all the other entries had as a result.

The worst offense of the movie, I felt, was that despite the whole world surrounding our lead being interesting, the inescapable fact is that Furiosa herself and the people that populate it, are not. They are side characters that help fill the world with texture and presence for Max. Max is interesting. Max is the catalyst event for the the most interesting things to happen. Without Max, the movie lacks a reactor to the insanity that this world exists in a constant state of. Max is a character, Furiosa is dressing. That's the biggest let down: Max isn't in this, and it's very obvious what these movies become and what they lack if Max isn't involved. In his place is a pseudo-Max Rockatansky, which isn't very satisfying, and almost makes Furiosa even less interesting with his involvement. Max, however, does makes a very tiny cameo and it was the most exciting thing in the movie for me.

If anything, this just makes me appreciate Fury Road more. Furiosa uses footage from Fury Road as inserts and cut-aways, seeing it only just made me excited to watch it again. Miller says that Furiosa was made from the compendium of backstories made for Fury Road, and that there was some prose for the year before Fury Road's story with Max. If Miller has one more in him, that little prose with Max in an adventure before Fury Road would be leagues above what Furiosa provided.

Saw it. Liked it. The Max cameo felt like fan service on the order of Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba in Rogue one.

If there's another, I'd prefer a prequel to Furiosa, once again concerning Max. To paraphrase Christopher Walken, "I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more V-8 interceptor!"

I liked it. So from now on I'll just consider Furiosa and Fury Road as 1 movie split into 2 parts. A build-up section and then the main event.

I’m gonna be honest, I’m probably never gonna see this. Furiosa was okay as a one-shot character for Fury Road, like Goose, Toecutter, The Feral Boy, The Gyro Captain, Auntie Entity and the Bartertown group (amongst others) were in the films they were featured in. Outside of that, she never interested me enough to where I want to see a stand alone film with her. If you enjoyed the film, that’s good. But, I’m probably gonna pass on this in the theater, streaming and physical release.

This wasn't bad, just average but entertaining nonetheless .
It doesn't bring anything we haven't seen already.
Way too much GCI.
I'm really not a fan of the new actress they cast for Furiosa.
Will watch it again in a few years to see how it ages.

Saw it, liked it. Will say Chris stole the show. Sadly Anya isn't given enough lines to really act as a foil against Chris and his one liners.

Max cameo was fun, if you know the car lore you'll catch his cameo, otherwise the general audience wont really know its him.

Biggest critique was the car action and stunts. Fury Road surpasses it by far where it used CGI to enhance the stunt work but the sheer amount of practical car stunt work is what really made it a cultural phenomena.

The film (Furiosa) has cool car stunt moments, but it feels less genuine. Im not sure of there was more or less practical car stunt work but it feels more watered down. There just isnt that full bore uncut third act where the car chase on the road leaves you kinda in awe and breathless. In fact they lead up to what is suppose to be this epic clash between to motor armies, and its just casually addressed off screen. Was kinda shocked how that turned out.

That said, fun movie. Its best paired w Fury Road as it scratches that itch Furiosa kinda leaves you with. I'd like to see another one but maybe keep the focus on Max and expanding the road war lore.
Till then-

Happy with it, but no where near the impact Fury Road had for me. Of course we know how things turn out, a problem with these kinds of stories. Came away with kind of a Quantum of Solace feeling. Not that that was a prequel, just that you are getting a complimenting story to the main one.
The cameo was blink and you miss it. Would have been nice to see something going on, at least show the vehicle in some action.
Chance to have shown a bit of origins or more backstory for Immortan Joe missed. But everything was pretty much just as it was shown in Fury Road.

Take away...
Successful warlords or rulers of barter towns have a blind musician.
This is truly where Dementus screwed up. LOL He had no tunes.

Better than it was in Fury Road -- Immortan Joe seemed downright reasonable in this one. The status quo functions and he keeps the guzzoline flowing. Unlike Dementus, he seems to have a sense that there's a world outside his own ego that needs tending to. He's even willing to negotiate with Dementus despite the guy wanting him dead!

I guess Dementus is just such a stupid, volatile leader that Joe looks good by comparison.

A name like "Immortan" does suggest more sanity than "Dementus."

Life for most people in the MM world would have been nasty, brutish, and short. Immortan Joe was an evil psycho but he couldn't have been an idiot. He obviously controlled a big group of people & resources for decades. In FR he was long past any physical butt-kicking age but he still had as much control as ever.

I had the thought, while rewatching Fury Road, that the modern Mad Max universe is possibly the only deeply involving, richly-imagined fantasy world that I would have zero desire to live in or even visit. Usually with stuff like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings or whatnot there's attractive elements to the worlds, and even for something like Dune it's possible to flatter oneself and imagine being part of the Fremen or something.

But with Max there's absolutely nothing I would want to be. Even the elite of that world are riddled with disease and deformity, presiding over a dying world filled with sickness. I wouldn't trade my crummy 2-bedroom apartment for the entire Citadel.

Oh yeah, no no no thanks.
All hell it is. Miller does give us some crumbs that it gets better, humanity clawing it's way back onto the map of civilization later, hopefully wiser.

There is a fuel tank farm near me, and a stadium. I joke with my wife, well, there are two things I need to control when the world falls to establish my rule. And a blind musician. I've learned from these films! LOL

And watch out for a loner with a bad knee driving a '73 XB Falcon. It never ends well for the warlords when he drifts into town.

If it ends bad for warlords when he drifts into town, it’s more than likely the warlords are doing a bad thing.so as long as he’s not doing something bad, there shouldn’t be any problems. XD

these training films have many lessons to study

True. You won't find a better documentary of everyday life in Australia than the Mad Max series.

This was two decades ago, but we rented a Holden Commodore, expecting a weak throttle response as most rentals are, but was surprised and had to check..... By our deeds we honor him... V8! Probably going back for the total eclipse, happens to land on my birthday, the wastelands call is too strong.
