Macrobinoculars greeble question.

I've been looking into making set of Macrobinoculars. I was wondering if someone could give me some insight on what this greeble is on the side? I know many people have different versions of the same idea. What are people putting on the side of their macrobinoculars? Does anyone know what's the most screen accurate part to use?
