Hey all,
Here's an interesting one. Some time ago I was asked to create a lifesized (about 4 foot tall) "Puggles Trodd". Puggles is an expanded universe character... a sneaky, scared, rodent-like explosives expert who hangs around some other bounty hunters.
Well, turns out the character's head happens to be based on the original MacQuarrie concepts for Chewie.
That made for a fun sculpt... I've always loved this design. The strong features and unique alien look are just a lot of fun. Since this was to be "Puggles" and not Chewie, we did a closed mouth, a slightly less pointy head and aimed his eyes up and away for a very suspicious look. The up angled eyes also work well because he's so short!
Creating the rest of the lifesize display was fun as well. He needed to be dirty and dusty and fit in with the "feel" of the SW universe. He also got a nice big rat tail and a slightly crouching pose which IMO really ties it all together.
I've still got the mold for the head, so if this sort of thing interests you, drop me a PM or email
Pics below... enjoy!!
Tom
Some of the original MacQuarrie sketches used as reference:
A shot of the sculpt and several looks at the completed head. These shots were prior to adding the final bits of hair on his head (making him a bit more Chewie and a bit less Puggles, but I think this was the stage he looked best )
The finished lifesized character and a close up of one of the hands.
