machined items

Dumb questions.

If I had autocad blueprints of a piece, is it very difficult to get that piece machined? It doesn't need to be metal. It could be foam for all I care, as long as the detail was there. Is there anyone here who does that kind of stuff?

Also is there anyone here who can do the computer renditions of pieces if I gave them the specs? Kinda like a certian banned individual did. I remember his renditions popping up here and there of boosters and whatnot.

PM me if you can help me out.

Thanks.

By blueprints do you mean 2d drawings with all the dimensions and tolerances?

If so it can be done by a machine shop but the part would have to be manually machined and/or programmed.

If it is a 3D model, it can be imported into their CAD/CAM software which will make programming easier.

If material is not a concern, what about rapid prototyping? Again you would need a 3D model. A shop with a rapid prototype machine would then be able to "print" it out in ABS plastic or other similar materials.

Just a few thoughts.

I guess the answer to your question depends on the complexity of the part.

Hope this helps

Clutch, for getting help w/ this sort of thing, the trick is finding someone motivated enough by the project to be willing to donate their time.

If the part is simple enough you can program it into emachineshop's free software and take screencaps of the resulting 3-d renders. That worked ok for me in trying out some emitter interior concepts last year.
