Hello again!
I've been dark for a while, owing to moving house and summer exams and not actually having anything to post. But!
For the last few weeks I've been working on a replica of the M-6 Carnifex Hand Cannon from the Mass Effect games. It's a pretty satisfying pistol to use in-game, looks pretty awesome, and is the basis for the M-77 Paladin which is a lot of fun to use, even if it is a bit OP (like all the Spectre weapons, now I think about it). In real life, it's pretty simple to actually build to!
I started by heading over to Punished Props and grabbing the vector drawings he's made (page here), then scaling them and printing them off. From those, I basically did what he did: cut a main piece from MDF, and two pieces of foam for each piece, then cut all the detail into them with knives, files and a rotary tool. That done, I began the lengthy process of prime, sand, putty, sand, prime...you get the idea. I also used my new 3D printer to print off the trigger, barrels and the little change lever on the side. Once everything was glued on and I was happy with the finish, it was time to paint!
The grip was given a coat of stone-texture paint before the whole piece was given a coat of matt black. The body was sprayed silver, and any places where I didn't tape it up properly were touched up with a brush. Then I cut stencils for the shapes and lettering, sprayed in the appropriate colours, and distressed it with some silver Rub 'n' Buff. Voila!

I'm really pleased with the result. It's actually the first prop I've made that I would consider to be of sufficient quality to sell, so that might happen at some point.
