Lukes severed head sculpt from the cave scene,*finished pics added*

Well after being inspired by vadermonkeys brilliant version, thought i'd have a go myself, i've been wanting to do something with the hamill lifecast i got, i'd been thinking a luke in carbonite, but this seems a better idea.
I cast the lifecast in silicone and using a technique Neil gorton wrote about in sci-fi fantasy magazine years ago, i did a clay press of it and added the eyes and back of the head etc.
heres the first rough pic

For the helmet i'm thinking of using a d.p deluxe fibreglass faceplate, and a dome which i believe is a rubies, i bought the mould last year for the dome, silicone with a fibreglass jacket, but the silicone has no keys on it and just flops around in the mother mould, i'm thinking it'll do for this
Heres what i'm going for

Re: Lukes severed head sculpt from the cave scene

Did a bit more today, added some texture , changed it round a bit, but it still needs tweaking, missing at least one mole by his nose

and i need to tweak the top of the nose, its allways good to come away from a sculpt, then you see what needs fixing

Greetings. I can see one thing that needs some work. The eyes. They are angled slightly wrong on his face, they should be tilted further back, so they look straight out when the head is held straight on, instead of them looking straight out as the head is tilted back. Also, I would think it would help greatly if you moved the eyes further up the face as they are sitting rather a bit too far down. At least that's sorta what's making this look a little creepy to me and possibly the shape of the eyelids.

Hope this is not seen as harsh...

Hey no problem, don't mind folks chipping in, as i said i used the lifecast so the eyes are were they should be, maybe the height of the head is throwing it off as well as the uneven nose, i'll have a look tomorrow
The eyes are staring straight ahead as thats what the original props eyes were doing, at least to my eyes.
I'm still tweaking, only started adding a bit of texture to see what it looked like, i'll have another look tomorrow

Just about finished the sculpt now, tweaked the eyes, added the wonky nose, and added texture, i think i'll tone that down before i cast it

This is looking better and better! please continue with the updates!

Re: Lukes severed head sculpt from the cave scene, more pics added

Thanks, i'm going to use hair and hand lay it on, now i'm thinking of the colour, the prop head looks more of blonde shade, but marks hair is definately brown to me.

Heya mate , nice work so far, i do think that punching hair would do it more justice over hand laid though. by the way check out Hair Punching for a cool vid on punching using crown needles, Lars the site owner turned me onto em a cople of years ago and they make hair punching quick n easy. plus the needles can be bought on ebay very cheaply. pack of ten is only a couple of quid. type crown needle into ebays search. look forward to seeing how this turns out . take care Ian

Cheers bud, long time no see! thanks for the link, i did plan on punching the eyebrows etc, but his lush 70's style locks cover the fod area, so thats why i thought laid would be better, i'll have a think and see what i come up with, once its in the helmet you only see a few strands of hair anyway.

Good work! I'll give this a try too this week but with a slightly different method. Only thing that I think is odd is the overall look and feel...he looks like Mark Hamill as he looks today and not back in the late 70's.

Plz don't be offended by that :confused

You scoundrel, (packs bags and leaves thread) just kidding! :thumbsup
No problem, i did go a bit overboard on the texture and wrinkles etc, but i was pleased with how it turned out
Heres the mould after i took the clay out
luked.jpg

And heres a quick test to see how it all goes together
lik.jpg

The head is latex and polyfoam, still got to trim and add the eyes etc.
The faceplate is a D.P deluxe recast i've had for years, finally found a use for it.
The dome is a casting of a rubies supreme i believe, i bought the mould of ebay last year.
Now i'm not going for total accuracy here, i burned the helmet dome and tore it up more than the screen used prop, but i like it , still got more work to do on it, more to come

Re: Lukes severed head sculpt from the cave scene, more pics added

Heres the finished head and helmet, pretty pleased with it, not a 100% accurate prop, but it works
