Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber

The V2s in the junkyard have nothing to do with this find. Replicas have not even been discussed. It’s actually been the opposite. Trying to find a way to offer the vintage items at or around the same price as the replicas that are in the market. If made public, then the scalpers would swoop in before that could be arranged.

Nothing is being shared because the items are not yet in hand. Bryan found them 2 weeks ago and we did hours of research and searching locating some.

Some good faith info. These do not attach via nail or screw.
You’re not following what I am trying to say.

We are trying to exercise some caution because honestly, we all have seen the scalping and information hoarding.

Speaking for myself, I'm not upset at all that you haven't revealed the info yet—just remarking on human nature. (If there are actually 4-5 more people that haven't posted yet that also already know what the item is as well, can I just pre-preemptively say "Good for you," lol.)

In all seriousness, to the extent that anyone helps to identify found parts after all these years—especially those impacting replica sabers—we owe them a debt of gratitude, assuming they choose to eventually share the info so that all of our V2s can be made more accurate if possible.

It's frustrating in these times where info is immediately available but I'd look at it as exciting. I've got a million questions to ask about it but I'm going to be patient.

I'm sure the finders have the community's best interests at heart.

Nahhh, they just don't want any of us to swoop in and steal their new cash cow out from under them.

Just so there are no misunderstandings, that was only a joke. It's nice to see someone looking out for the interests of like-minded lunatics for a change.

Can we at least all agree to continue calling it the mystery chunk?

When Dann, Trooper_trent were modeling and then 3D printing some for our V2s over a year ago, we called it operation Truffle Shuffle.

Yeah... all this bad blood is ridiculous. We’re actually trying to make sure that two things DO NOT happen... hoarders and scalpers drive a niche market even higher... and then do the same thing that was done with balance pipes, boosters, and EIAJ plugs among other things. Heck... look what happened to the macrobinocular parts. A small group got a hold of the majority of what was available and drove the prices to the stratosphere... making it impossible to get at normal prices.

we’re trying to prevent that... so when those Scalper prices do turn up... we have a ton to say... nope... how about this low price instead. You get a chunk, and you get a chunk, and you get a chunk... Oprah style

All read with interest. With hind sight it would have been better not to mention anything at all until everything was in place & confirmed? For me it looks like saying just a few words 'mysteriously' has lead to far more words having to be said to mend misunderstandings.

For me I'm more interested as to why this piece (& the cone knob) were shoved in those holes in the first place. I very much doubt we'll ever find that out.

...I wish I’d had a more solid idea before PoopaPapaPalps went and bought all those hobnails to checker. Sorry mate...

Dude, don't even worry about it. It's all part of the research. The only frustration that came in on my part was that I didn't hold out sooner and wouldn't have had to bother. I'll find a way to repurpose the nails and they cost me at most 30 bucks (and that's all shipping from international sellers), where teecrooz says he spent heaps. So it's nothing.

While I can empathize with others feeling a bit frustrated on the matter to an extent, the folks who found it have already made it clear what their intentions are. I don't think what any of you three, Verity Cosplay teecrooz BRRogers, have taken a misstep at all. You're just looking out for the community; one that has been known to hoard and scalp regularly as well as blowing things out of their value. Even with stuff that isn't screen used. Nevermind the Holiday Saber, everybody forget the Canon flashes after the "Custom Lightsaber" thread got interested in them like a year or two ago?

We're all lunatics are obsessing over this one part to get closer to having the real-deal prop in hand, and I'm right there with you. In fact, I'm considering postponing my Alu-Cast hilt run even further until these parts are in and real-deals and accurate replica Mystery Chunks are readily available. That way, everyone can get what they want for whatever reasons they want.

Take it all in stride, fellas.(y)

I’m honestly not trying to be rude or an @$$ with this reply. I thought it was common knowledge that they plugged the holes that had the switch and the power cables coming out of the hilt during ANH. Which powered the motor for the spinning blade during the duel between Obi and Vader.

Thanks all.
helping me gather myself a bit.

This.
If I find anything else for the first time I’ll remember why I shouldn’t be so cavalier.

I am involved in a lot of these threads for just the info. I don’t really care bout obtaining real parts, I just want to know how it was made and if there is a story or reasoning why it was done, well then that is great too. But I am the kind of guy that is happy with a fan made graflex or a denix blaster build. I’m more of an idealized prop replica collector anyhow.

So for me, a lot of the time I like to see if I can help find found parts to help expose details about the props. As a result, it is very aggrivating to find out you might be wasting your time because someone already had known the answer for some time or to hear, “we know, but we are not telling.” And I am not talking just about the mystery chunk, seems like there might be a lot of info that might be known about this prop that‘s being kept under wraps. And not just about parts but construction methods too. If that’s the case, I would like to know why? I don’t even care if it is about money, future project or pride, I just would like some transparency On this matter.

I can't definitively say as to the motivations of past knowledge or circumstances.

We've explained our reasoning for the (temporary) secrecy.

in the course of designing hilts I can speak to only what I have seen or have experienced. In the course of that I will list out what I have seen.

1.) someone has NDA constrained access to imagery or details and is bound by NDA.

2.) someone has details that they are using to do a run and are withholding that as to avoid copying (this happens a LOT; I will not name names here but have encountered this much in the last couple of years during my design work). People DO steal others' designs and get burned so some of this is people trying to preserve their own efforts.

3.) Someone is looking to make profit and secure the monopoly on a resource. We have all seen this occur sadly. Price gouging and hoarding of parts or resources.

4.) Someone holds (usually Information or media) and is seeking to trade it to a vendor or designer in exchange for either free product or profit share if there is any.

5.) a sense of power due to the "neener neener I know something and won't tell". Unfortunately this does happen and is an internet reality. I see it in other circles I belong to as well. Usually this is combined with some form of elitist group or club that has other symptoms too.

This is what I have encountered.

I gotta say I’m a little surprised at some of the negative responses when it was made clear from the beginning that all will be revealed once confirmed and these been time to craft a good reveal. To me it’s kind of like people wanting to read the script or first treatment of a movie instead of waiting until it’s released. I’d rather get a cool story and well presented reveal later than the “just tell me now!” Option. Especially knowing that the intention is both to prevent a ton of people buying up the wrong thing (how pissed would you all be if they revealed it only to have everyone spend hundreds of dollars and find out that it’s not really the part) As well as to prevent the hoarders from swooping in and jacking up the prices.
I’m happy to sit and wait, get a good story and then possibly an easy chance to get one at cost without having to hunt for it. What more could you ask for?

If you control the supply, then you can set the price. What would you consider a low price for this item?
