Limited Run Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 37)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Brandon Alinger confirmed there's a chunk of aluminium.

It's not part of a stand, the saber is sitting on a shiny surface.

Casting sprue? I've seen reports that one or more of these things were cast aluminum, but

I still wonder where the power cable exited the saber.

I would presume it came out of the hole the chunk is plugging. Also, this should be discussed in the V2 thread proper.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I thought I'd share how I did my emitter.

I stuck a small dowel into the body of the saber from the pommel end. I then put the emitter in place & placed the rod in place & marked how much was sticking out the end of the emitter (it was only about 1/4-1/2 an inch). I added some length to account for the width of the bearing. I wrapped the end with tape to make a stopping point for the bearing. I mixed a bit of epoxy, brushed it onto the rod at the area the bearing sits,& let it cure about an hour. The bearing is locked in place, but I left the tape on anyways.

When you then put the rod in the correct way, you have the correct amount of rod exposed to attach your emitter. I just put the rod in, used the dowel to hold the rod tight against the inside of the saber body, put the emitter on & tightened her down.

My only boo-boo has been that I snapped my D-ring trying to put it on. Instead of pulling it apart, I tried to twist it to maintain the shape.

Don't do that.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Partially assembled mine today! I'm not 100% sure how the bearing and rod work so I'll wait for the tutorial. All my problems with the clamp just happened because I needed one more rotation and couldn't squeeze it tight enough to adjust it. A second set of hands helped, although I know I'll have to remove it for painting. I also used a piece of packing tape to secure the clamp card, and put the D ring in just as Romans video said.

hey, are these grub screws Alen sockets? They just look round. I'd like to take my pommel off for painting but I'm not sure how to get it back out lol

Yes they're Metric allens M3 and M4

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

This prop was originally made in England. So that's why I went with metric fasteners

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

That's even more accurate then! Some maintenance guys at my office helped me strip down some old eq for grub screws on a rod (remember that picture I posted) and they brought out a set of us and metric Allen wrenches with ball ends. I've always wanted a set and now I have a reason to buy them!

I love how you got that dirty mark on the clamp. Looks great!

Also no tape added for mine. I want it to be like in the movie, not like in Its current state.

I thought the V2 did have tape in the movie? Observe here:

The groove is not very pronounced in the photo. Note the "shared stunt" also has (aluminum) tape on the neck, painted over with copper.

Well, I can see the groove here (using some zoom ins and screen captures) ignore the red arrow there on one pic; that was from another thread.

Hard to tell of course, but what is true is that there's not that ugly bunch of tape shown in the recent found pics.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I imagine it's the original amount of tape just unfurling after 30 years.

Thanks. I wish I could take credit for it! My clamp is a genuine GRAFLEX Clamp and it was tarnished like when I got it.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I think the groove you're seeing is just the impression showing through the tape. Look how thick it is compared to the other neck piece below the "windvane" area. It's the same diameter or even a hair thicker than the lower piece. Now look at the difference in thickness without the tape. Definitely thinner. I think your very last photo (with the red arrow) is the only shot where the tape might not be there, but even then it's really hard to tell.
