I've only seen the box closed in the MOM tour.

The only pics I've seen opened were the Smithsonian pic.

if you watch the movie "Returning to Jedi" there is a actual video in the middle of the saber being taken apart, it did a lot more than just open the control box. Highly Recommend it.
