Limited Run Luke ROTJ Hero Lightsaber Kit.( Run closed )

Finished up mine this evening (still need a circuit board in the control box).

New, accurate saber alongside the other version I had (notice that the black and silver ribbed neck section is just painted plastic):

How are people removing the paint from the silver rings on the neck so cleanly?

Just sprayed with Krylon satin black today, will let it sit for 48 hours... But then what? Any hints, you lovely people? :)

I used various grades of fine abrasive Micromesh taped to a UMMVojTech sanding bar to provide a straight and flat surface and rotated the ribbed section against that to remove the paint, repeating the process with finer grades to polish.

In preparing the ribbed section for painting I used the same technique to ensure that high and low spots were polished out prior to painting thus ensuring that the paint removal stage was easy, uniform and minimal.

Sounds good, but don't think I have any means of rotating the sabre... Hmm, I'll have to think!

I waited until the paint was touch dry then used a mixture of very fine wire wool and paper towels/finger nail. I did two coats this way, and I think it took me 20 -30 mins to expose the metal after each.

Aha! Well, might be a bit late for that approach by this stage, for me.

I had heard somewhere to let it cure or it will chip more readily, so guess I'll find out Saturday.

I haven't painted mine yet, but plan on using the thin 3M painters vinyl tape to mask. Any excess on edges I'll lightly sand away.

I sanded away with a fine sanding stick. Worked fine, despite a little bit of chipping. I'm no expert, though!

I used a sanding block and went through various grades of sandpaper while rotating the saber in my hand. I primed before painting, so I didn't have any problems with chipping (which I have had when I didn't use primer).

I sprayed the bare metal with Halfords automotive Satin Black, let it dry for about 2-3 hours, then scraped off the paint with my fingernail.

Thanks for the input guys - the sanding method worked for me, with only a little chipping that I'm sure I can fix!

Thanks so much!

Has anyone thought about making a new control box side plate with the triangle cutouts to make it so they can light up? Luckily that plate is removable, so I would think a plain old laser cut sheet would be fairly easy to do. Would make the placement of the triangles much easier as well.

Hi guys. Where i can get a bunch of scratch parts to build the inside of the control box?
Or what old devices can i oped to obtain a good amount of small parts to build it?
I wouldnt want to spend a fortune on it :)

Also want to know if is there any clear reference of the original lightsaber circuits to be used as a guide.
Thanks!

SAM_1648.JPGSAM_1650.JPGSAM_1651.JPGok so iv been working on some other things but noticed now as iv worked on my saber that the section before the black painted grip starts between the control box and grip is close to 5mm long were every one else's going off the images seem to be about 2mm, i also have a deep full circle gouged in my emmiter section on the face facing the copper neck, i have contacted nicksdad about the ring and i believe he is sending me another emmiter piece but nicksdad i think the body section is too long as well? can anyone else see what i am talking about

i have done up some quick lines in paint to point out and it is clear as day. here are two other members sabers, nicksdad's picture of what it should be like and two pics of my saber

Yes, looks different. I havent received mine yet so i cant compare. I hope it arrives without this or any other issue.
Also hope you get it solved.

Is there any consensus on if the control box screws are supposed to be brass? Every replica Ive seen has them gold colored, and they appear to be on the real thing. Anyone know what size these are? I'd also say the screws used on this run seem a little large compared to this photo.
