For finishing bare metal, using Micromesh abrasives gives you quite fine control over the degree of shine you get, you just use the grades progressively and stop when you reach the shine you want. I found that by polishing various areas to different grades you get contrasts without losing the coherence of the piece. In addition you can weather by using dull areas to show wear etc, achieving subtle transitions by selective polishing. It's not a universal technique, but I've used it on a few pieces where damage or heavy weathering wasn't required.
I plan on priming first fo sho.everyone adding primer at all or is it just a straight paint job on the bare aluminum?
Mine arrived today, looks great! Thank you again for this great run.

This is copper foil tape. I have way more than I will ever need for this project. For those of you who are willing to wait for some, send me a pm so I can give you an address to send a self addressed and stamped envolope and I can send it to you for no additional cost.
Finished mine up! I chose to paint the neck section with Tamiya Gold. For the runners on the control box, I primed and used Antique Gold Rub 'n Buff.
I used gun blue to blacken the tri-ring which looks pretty good to me.

I can´t decide if i keep my with the copper neck (aged or polished), turn me a neck from brass (aged or polished), or turn me one from alu (to try paint it). So many varations to try. :love
