Luke Macro Knobs - Why has nobody replicated?

So yeah I'm working on my Macro's, and was just curious.

Why do we bother going on the hunt for these Seagull 4's and Kalimars (guess we DO need the viewfinder) when we could just machine these darn things?

Has this ever been discussed even? Would it not be more economical?
