Luke ANH lightsaber from scratch

Hi there,

There was a time many of us knew when the easiest way to get a Luke ANH/ESB lightsaber was to build it out of available materials.

I did back in the late 90s out of a 40mm diameter steel tube. Unfortunately, I gave it to a friend in the early 2000 when I learned about the Graflex flash tube.

That awesome thread made me wanna try to build a scratch made Luke lightsaber again :

mine is still unfinished. It's made out of a 38mm diameter aluminium tube, spare parts I had lying around like the glass eye part and the clamp. I used Wannawanga grips and bubble strip.

I'm also currently trying to build a hilt inspired of that early interpretation I really love, as it is sleek and elegant. I'm gathering junks and found parts to make it, I'll probably post progress pictures.

That's awesome Benjo! I've been wanting to try this for years but I've always been unsatisfied with missing the shoulder below the red button and glass eye. How did you make them on your replica?

I simply made them out of styrene, shaped them so they could fit the tube.
I also had one extra glass eye, removed from a KR hilt to build a "Ranch lightsaber" :).

You can also shape the shoulders yourself using a DIY shoulder puller but it's kind of tricky.

That’s a great looking Youngling Slayer 6,000 hilt!

(Yes, I’m trying to make that hilt label happen)
