I think the glass is shaped slightly different in the first photo, but it might just be the angle because it's much more similar in the second, though that could be the lighting. I can't seem to locate the auction photo of it which would be very clear.

I've been searching for old type lanterns and that battery operated one seems the closest... oddly enough.

Yeah, it looks like they might have used 2 different lanterns going by these photos. The one up top definitely isn't the same as the 1st pictured one, but I think it could be a match for the bottom one.

Choptop - having studied Lost props enough, I wouldn't put it past their team to have use different lanterns. The compass that Richard shows John Locke as a child is not the same one John Locke gave to him and the torn corner of the tapestry has all sorts of consistency problems.

Thanks for the website link, Maulwalker! The Dietz does seem pretty likely...

These are close, but not exact.

I went ahead and got the battery operated lantern that is in the style of the ones in the show.

Here it is along with some of my other Lost Props (statue in progress):

any suggestions on weathering the glass to get that used look on the glass? I haven't tried to take it apart, but I imagine it's possible... Maybe some sort of gray spray paint or something. I have some ideas for the rest of it, but I haven't worked much with glass.

Hey that could work! I'll have to look into it. It might be difficult to get just the right part inside...

It also crossed my mind that if I can take it apart, I could try REAL smoke from a REAL candle... It's real glass, so it's not like it would melt.

The candle would be a good bet. One of the "joys" of using a kerosene lantern is having to take it apart and cleaning the smoke off the glass every, single, day. (I spent way too much time at Girl Scout camp.)

Love your props :) Lost is one of my all time favourite shows.

P.s did you manage to sort the glass staining out and go you have pictures?
