Hey there fellas,

Been a lurker for a while and have decided my first project will be Joe from Looper.

Extremely excited for this movie, and I've been told by many people that I remind them of Joseph Gordon Levitt...so what better costume to start with?

I'm looking to do the "going to to kill some future gangsters" version. I've been doing some searching and I THINK I've found some pretty close matches to the version below.

Google Image Result for http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/looper-trailer-joseph-gordon-levitt.jpg

I believe the jacket is...
Carhartt Men's Sandstone Duck Detroit Blanket Lined Jacket: Amazon.com: Clothing

Maybe with the patch removed...?

And I think the pants are similar to these...
Amazon.com: Carhartt Men's Canvas Work Dungaree: Clothing

Thoughts fellas?

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Bump!

Having a hard time finding this jacket anywhere!

Did find some pretty accurate pants at my local K-mart of all places.

Suggestions fellas?

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Just got the jacket from amazon for eighty bones. I'm positive now that this is the jacket used in the film.

My next step is to beat the thing to hell. It's far too clean right now. Gonna roll around in the thing and wash it a couple times.

After the jacket comes the fun part...building the blunderbuss!

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Looks close enough to me! Be sure to post some progress pics of your blunderbuss!

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Starting on the blunderbuss today.

Gonna try and do this from scratch, because the pre-exisiting barrel shroud is crazy expensive.

Anyone have any pics of Joe's shoes?

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Sharpshooter55, I want to thank you for the ID on the jacket.
This thing is clearly the one. Great work!

Just ordered myself one off Amazon. Too tempting to have the real thing. (And I can imagine them selling out once the flick hits. One of the perks of having read the SP, is I know I'm going to love the movie.)

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Well,

Broke the jacket in mostly to my liking and I've officially started on the blunderbuss!

I bought this conversion kit for airsoft rifles for only $40 bucks used! It will make for a pretty good base for the gun...

Amazon.com: JBU JB34 Longest Rail Sniper FIRSH Olympic Arms Trademark Conversion Kit for MIL16 Airsoft AEG: Sports & Outdoors

They have a few more used ones if anyone is looking to start a blunderbuss build for cheap!

Picking up some shoes today and everything but the blunderbuss will be finished!

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Any word on where we can find the two leather jackets he wears in the film? Or prosthetic noses?

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

Yeah, that seems close. I think the pockets are different and it's def a fitted jacket. Very 70's style, especially with the collar. A quick search came up with the name Jonathan Logan as the designer. So I'm sure it was custom made for the film.

I could be wrong, but I think he had a different leather jacket when they were driving around in the beginning of the film.

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

The leather jacket is from Jonathan A. Logan. Should be available this week for $850 in sizes 38-44.

Updates!

The airsoft conversion kit came in this afternoon and the thing is PERFECT!

I cut it down to a foot in length and sanded off the end.

As I was digging through my old airsoft stuff I found these rail covers that are just absolutely spot on for the pump/slide.

I'm working on sawing off the rails on the side of the handguard now...it's terribly time consuming and not going very smoothly.

Oh well, back to work!

Re: Looper 'Joe' Costume Help!

More updates!

It will be too soon if I never see a hacksaw again! That was grueling work...

Got all of the unwanted RIS rails cut and shaved off the handguard.

Honestly...using a hacksaw for that was just terrible...but I had no other options.

Next step I'll cut the inner pipe to size and start on the endcaps.

Thanks for looking!

Re: Looper 'Young Joe' Costume and Blunderbuss build!

MORE UPDATES!

Started on the front endcap tonight! Got some of these techniques from FakeBritishAccent's thread. His blunderbuss is beautiful! Check it out...

Anyhow, started on the endcap...

Next was a LOT of careful dremel(ing).

IMG_0501_zps57251374.jpg

Then I attached the endcap to the inner barrel.

Then slid that into the handgaurd, to see how it looks.

It's getting done slowly but surely. Tomorrow after work I hope to start on the rear endcaps and handle.

Anyone have any ideas how I can carve STRAIGHT lines in the pvc? I tried a few times on a practice piece with my dremel, and it turns out like crap!

Thanks for looking fellas.

Re: Looper 'Young Joe' Costume and Blunderbuss build!

Hardly got anything done tonight.

Tried carving the handles twice and messed up the size both times. Too frustrated to do anything more tonight. I'll give it another go after work tomorrow.

Re: Looper 'Young Joe' Costume and Blunderbuss build!

Awesome work, dude! That rail you picked up was good to begin with, but with your modifications, it totally works! I wasn't sure if this thread would cover your blunderbuss too, but now that I know it does, I'll be following your progress.

Believe me...you've seen my thread so you know that the wood grips were a super headache for me. In retrospect, I wish I'd sculpted them entirely out of Apoxie Sculpt instead of carving them, as it's easier to get the two sides symmetrical when you can add more clay if you take too much off. If I were to go back, I'd use the same technique I used for the wood grips except with clay: Get the general grip shape down perfect and then use my Dremel or a hobby knife to carve in the grooves.

But the BIGGEST advice I can give you regarding the grips? 80% of the grips will be covered with tape, so you can get away with a lot of imperfection. I'm very OCD when it comes to stuff like that, but I wish I could've followed my own advice and saved myself four days of worktime :cry

Once again, awesome work, dude!
