Looking for voice amplifier / modulator options that *aren't* Star Wars related

I am trying to find options for a voice amplifier or voice changer, and I'm specifically looking for one that isn't one of the many Star Wars ones that get made. I have found these from Hyperdyne since they seem to be the gold standard for Star Wars type voice changers, but the only two ones they have are either Storm Trooper specific, or costs $400.

At minimum I need just an amplifier, but ideally I would like to find a simple modulator as well to give a more robotic tone. Here's some clips of the character from the cartoon show talking. Try to ignore Tom Kane's excellent voice acting (because voice acting really can make or break a voice effect) and just listen to the effect.

So... Anyone have any ideas or leads? Anyone with personal experience working with something would be great!

Neat, I'll look into that. Do you have a rough estimate of what the build cost is for all of the parts? I don't see it laid out on that page.

Found a used Vader helmet gutted it and these are pringles speakers 8 -10 $ can look on Ebay sure you can find good deals..:thumbsup

Arduino (You'll need Duemilanove or Uno model I believe) is about $10-$15.00..all over ebay........

and the Adafruit Waveshield is about $22.00

and Electret mic $6.95

plus you need to pay for shipping..etc.etc..

actually all parts/links are in the tutorial link I posted above. :)

Another alternative is using a mobile phone or such device as the voice processor. For this there are many apps on the iOS/Android platforms.

The options for Darth Vader voice changers for mobile devices are:

for iOS (iphone/ipad/ipod touch etc.):
- VoiceMod (paid)
- Voice Changer Plus (free)

for Android (phones/tablets):
- Darth Vader Voice Changer DTVC (free)

Your mileage will vary with these apps - esp. for use with costumes - since you will break character if you are seen fiddling with your mobile phone.

Another issue with mobile phones etc. is battery power (not a problem if it is dedicated for this - could even supply auxillary power to a mobile phone - so perhaps not that much of an issue).

However with phones, they can go to sleep/lockscreen - so need to turn those off (usually can in Settings etc.).

With Android you have the option of buying a really cheap used phone just for this purpose (for iOS, VoiceMod requires iOS 6 - so you will have to use a iOS device iphone or ipod touch may do - that supports iOS 6).

The mobile phone app also needs to be real-time - very few voice changers on these devices are real-time - however VoiceMod is real-time. The Android app is not exactly real-time - has Record/Play buttons and a Live mode (which is like Talking Tom Cat - which would require you speak and pause so it can repeat - advantage of this is that it would never suffer from audio feedback).

The quality of the sound is the next thing - and the results will vary between the apps - and not all of them get the sound right, so you will have to check them out (or on a friend's phone) to quickly screen them.
