I'm going to be sculpting a bust of the main alien from close encounters, the animatronic one, referance pics seem to be thin on the ground, thought i'd ask on here, anyone?

Thanks for the pics guys, thats the one, doesn't seem to me much out there pics wise, i should pick it up on blu ray, isn't there a new version out now?

That thing terrified me when I was little. Why did they have tons of little ones, and then that one huge alien?

Cinefantastique magazine (V7 #3-4) has some good Close Encounters stuff in it. Including picks/info of the Puck alien.

I'll see if i can pick up a copy, cheers for that

I don't know, maybe he cost to much to make more, wondered that myself

Ive got the blu ray version of it, probably one of the best transition into HD ive seen, there are 2 versions on the bluray the anniversary edition and the original cinema version.

Ahh...the old Rambaldi vs. Burmans alien issue. The Cinefantastique article goes into detail about why we get to see like 3 different aliens! Puck came a bit later and was a lot more refined. Just be glad we didn't get chimps on rollerskates! Here's some info....

p.s. did you consider sculpting a full-size standing Puck? Man, I was so go for that!

I'd love to see sculpts of the alien who smiles as he communicates with hand signals. It's a Carlos Rambaldi puppet... but, oh, it's wonderful. The smile is so warm... just right.

Even way back when it first came on, I figured all the aliens were supposed to look like Puck in the face, but didn't due to the obvious limitations at the time. I also figured Puck was the leader and therefore looked bigger/different.

That moment, coupled with the amazing score and Francois Truffaut's heartwarming smile, still gives me chills.

Cinema magic!
