Looking for Luke ROTJ Lightsaber

Does anyone on here actually build the lightup lightsabers with detachable blades? I found this site but don't know much about the prop aspect of things (I do costumes).

I would have posted this is junkyard but I'm not able to yet.

I'm looking to make my fiance a ROTJ costume for comic con and was hoping to get a saber for around that time. So I guess right now I'm trying to find if that site is a good place to buy from or if someone here can do it then that's cool too.

Thanks! :cool

There's also these.

ThinkGeek :: Star Wars Force FX Lightsabers

Im not into 100% screen acuracy or anything like that in the prop...just something that is a decent quality and doesn't look to fake.

Maybe there would be a way to weather the think geek one so it's not quite so bright?? I like the price tag on that one but the look of the other hahaha.....isn't that always how it is??

Never had much experience with the dueling sabers, but the "Arc Wave" from Parks Sabers looks far better (closer to the Luke ROTJ) than the one in your link. It's just a touch cheaper too.

I'm 100% certain that someone else knows of an even better option though.

EDIT: Force FX for $100 is nothing to sneeze at, as the other options mentioned run well over $200

The Force FX sabers are fine for the casual fan, particularly the Anikan and Vader sabers. The Luke ROTJ one just looks completely wrong though, WAY too thick at the neck. You probably would never be happy with it.

Has anyone EVER made a truly good OB1 or Luke ROTJ that would hold a blade? Because I'd really like to see one. The Parks is the best one I've seen, and it's still not great. :unsure

The biggest problem I have with it is those terra cotta colored rubber things. I feel it just adds a real kid toy feel to it. And I'm not really good at fiddling with stuff like metal so I doubt I'd be able to find a way to replace them.

I checked them out and I really like that. For me I think it would work just great.

Sigh, if I were rich I'd just buy everything and make a decision that way. :lol

There was a guy here that made an AWESOME Obi with a blade... I'll see if I can find it.

You need to check out Slothfurnace's Obi Wan thread:

EDIT: Orange_Blend beat me to it!

And to answer the original question, it really depends how important a removable blade is to to. The Force FXs are great for Halloween/Conventions as they look the part and have all the noises. If you want something with all that and a removable blade, you'll want to check out Ultrasabers as they do fine work.

Both websites you posted are selling the same product, Hasbro FX Lightsabers (not to be confused with Hasbro toy/economy lightsabers). These are officially licensed collectibles that light up and have sound. They also use LED string blades meaning that there are many LEDS running the entire length of the inside of the blades. This means that you cannot do any heavy dueling or you will damage the connections between each LED. Light dueling is fine.

As has been mentioned, the Luke ROTJ FX saber as well as the Obi-Wan ANH FX saber have very thick necks. This is not acceptable for some. To go thin-neck you could buy from Parks Sabers, but his sabers do not have sound and also use a form of LED string. Of course, you could always have a custom sabersmith modify it to have sound or to use a "single LED in the hilt" solution for lighting the blade (which is actually the more popular method among the custom saber building community).

You might also try asking your question on custom lightsaber forums.

The best resource for learning about custom lightsabers and the people who build them would be this forum...

FX-Sabers

Another great forum for lightsabers would be this one...

The Custom Saber Shop Forums

There are many great sabersmiths that frequent both sites. Just be careful not to solicit to either buy or sell on the TCSS forum as it is linked to a store that sells saber parts.

I hope that helps.
