Looking for a real Indiana Jones Machete

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum so bear with me :)

Actually, I'm not looking for a prop, I'm looking for the real deal, a real machete.
I have allready started saving up money to buy the hat, jacket, whip etc. I know where to find the gear, but I'm stuck at the machete part.
I know NobleCollections sells an Indiana Jones machete, but I don't think it's going to last very long in the jungles of Peru. (me and my buddies are going to Peru)

Most of the machetes I've found doesn't look like anything that belongs in an Indy movie. I'm looking for a good machete with a wooden handle and a steel blade.

I tried Club Obi-Wan over at Indygear.com but I'm not allowed to register with a free e-mail account. (I'm using gmail)
I know this doesn't exactly fit in the 'prop' department, but I hope you can help me anyway.

Thanks in advance

If you want a real hard working machete I'd advise getting a Tramontina. http://www.discountcutlery.net/en-us/dept_21529.html , Be sure to sharpen it yourself.
Cold steel also make a good one. (but plastic handle.)
Ontario knife makes the US army one but it is not as good as the previous two.
I just cleared about 1/3 acre with one including pretty heavy saplings and branches even bamboo...keep it sharp and it will serve you well.

Just thought I would add...
My favorite is the 18 inch Latin pattern machete. The 18 is an in-between length, and weight, and works in close quarters. The 20 inch is good for tall grasses and clearing land but is difficult to tolerate on a belt. The 14 - 18 inch machetes are the best blades that are easy to carry and get the job done.

You can definitely head off into the jungle with a Tramontina machete, millions of people did just that this morning.

A note on blade thickness and weight.

A heavy machete like the Ontario (US ARMY) is very good on hard wood. It is more like a hatchet with a long edge. The downside to such a machete is that when you have to hack for hours, especially in tall grass and vines it will wear you out.
Machetes are like golf clubs, you have to pick the right one for the job.

The Tramontina ones does look quite nice, perhaps I can get some craftsman here in Denmark to replace the handle with one made out of wood.

"UC501, 1119 Indiana Jones Bowie (above). My first movie license design back in 1988. The original president of United Cutlery, Kevin Pipes, was a big Indiana Jones fan like me. He got us in the door at Lucasfilm. Initially we were going to make the machete Indy uses on the rope bridge in Temple of Doom, but it was just so plain and boring looking we wanted to design a new one, a relic that Indy would have picked up in his travels. I sketched dozens of designs, but still could not come up with a good one. I designed and designed, right up to the morning when we were supposed to meet with Lucasfilm and make the deal. I finally came up with the design, drawing on a hotel napkin at breakfast. Kevin got the license deal completed and we were invited to see a screening of the third Indiana Jones film, which was about to be released, in the theatre on Lucas Valley ranch. I called the knife a Khyber Bowie since it had some characteristics of a Khyber. The painting I created for the packaging was turned into a poster that won an ADDY award that year. The knife was hugely successful. UC had a few 3x size Indy bowies made for our showroom and a few of our top customers."

I'd love to have the rope bridge cutting machete, with the United Cutlery plaque! Wanna email them and let us know if the machete is from the 70's and sells for a few bucks on ebay :)

Out of curiosity, why do you want a wooden handle if you are going to be hanging out in a jungle? The plastic on most modern machetes (such as the Tramontina) is extremely durable and weather and environment resistant, while wood swells, shrinks, loosens and rots, unless properly treated and even then, sometimes.

My question is, are you looking for a durable piece of equipment or a cool looking prop?

Yeah I can't take it to Peru, legally I can't even take it outside the house.
As for wether I'm looking for quipment or a prop, well technically it's not a prop or a replica. It's a real sword. I know that having a quality carbon-steel "battleready" sword haning on my wall simply won't do. I know that every time I look at it I will think..."but it's not real, it's just a copy" So I'm getting a real sword. Not a "prop" and not equipment, I'm getting a weapon.
I consider this to be my ultimate "prop" so that's why I'm willing to pay as much as $1200. It's like getting a pair of your favorite football players shoes or shirt.

As for the wooden handle. I just don't think a sword with a plastic handle is very Indy-ish. :)

I will not take it to Peru though, I'm probally gonna buy a somewhat cheap machete down there and then sell it before I go home again.

did any company get a license to make a replica machette based on the temple of doom version? I have one, but dont know if its fan made or licensed.
