I read and article today that claims in years to come Johnny Depp will be remembered as the greatest star of his time and history will rank him with celluloid legends such as Humphrey Bogart, Rudolph Valentino and Clark Gable.
Im a big fan of Johhny Depps work so i could be biased as to say i agree with the statement.

This got me thinking, in decades to come which actors/actresses do you think Future RPFer's will be talking about ? and how about Movies, take the 1932 King Kong movie as an example. A movie that's almost 80yrs old is still talked about today.
Which Movies will they be discussing?

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

Sky High - that's all that will survive after the great coming war between Humans and tampons

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

lol. I honestly can't think of any movies made that even hold a candle to the ones from the golden age of hollywood.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

I think johnny depp's overrated. He's a good actor no doubt, but overrated.

i think Jeff Bridges should be/will be remembered.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

In the distant future the only films available will be dispensed in a edible paste for synaptic neural consumption will be Robot Jox, Mac and Me and the aforementioned Sky High.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

What about Transformers?

:lol

Only if it's the 1986 animated and actually I think it was one of the first kids movies to have that much violence and language (spike saying "oh s**t" was a big deal) since PG 13 didn't exist then.

so, i am guessing in 100 years hell froze over :ninja

joking aside,

johnny depp is overrated.....very overrated....the past several roles he has played are basically the same character.....his acting has become boorish and stale.....nothing new...same old same old just like tim burton

acting legends from our time: Daniel Day Lewis, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Jack Nicholson will be the most remembered I believe......maybe Billy Crystal....

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

Speilberg will be hyped to death as the greatest - maybe he'll deserve it, I don't know.
People will still watch Michael Jackson and consider him the greatest performer of our time, his spot is secure. Once documents are released from the first case and people can read what happened for themselves - he'll either be looked on as another Lord Byron or a misunderstood genius who was crucified by those who wanted money.
Star Wars will be looked at like King Kong (the original) is today.
The Grey area between right and wrong will expand so wide there will be an excuse for any ill behavior.
Intense drugs will be dispensed over the counter.
A nuke will be used somewhere in the world between now than then - unifying people for a shirt time, then dividing those who want such weapons destroyed for good.
Stephen King will be compared to Mary Shelly , Patrick Clay, Dante Alighieri and other great horrorists.
Hollywood will be rebooting Star Wars for the 4th time with Jet Beetle the 3rd playing Han Solo and his twin brother Rex who ran away from home years ago.
Someone will steal the statue of me over my tomb and discover under it is my great unfinished Screenplay "Cannonball Run 5 - the secret of Burt's Gold"
Sky High will be played every thanksgiving and when a new President is sworn in.

Hell Froze over and you and Billy Crystal are the only ones who would have picked your final entry.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

I think Harrison Ford although one Dimensional Actor the franchises he help make will speak or him.

Tom Cruise is a very powerfull leading man I think
Leonardo DiCaprio for sure
I think we are only scraping the surface of what is to come from Matt Damon
If George CLooney was in More Big Movies I think he could be on this list
Tom Hanks above all I have listed before though

clint eastwood would probably be the next john wayne? maybe

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

Actors and Performers are no longer cast but clone grown in a facility in San Angeles ensuring an infinite supply of Tyler Perry Madea films.

The reanimated skeletal remains of Tim Burton will be feverishly at work on his latest reimagining of the legendary screen classic 3 Ninjas.

The Hulk franchise will be rebooted for the seventh time starring a more relatable and charismatic Bruce Banner portrayed by Charles Grodin Jr.

And finally The Walt Disney Company will successfully complete its merger with the United States government paving the way for the true rapture followed by 40 years of darkness and the subsequent enslavement of the remainder of the human race left behind until the Lasseter revolt of 2111.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

I don't think Tom Hanks or Billy Crystal will be on the list for OUR time because they don't act anymore. They've been in some great movies and Tom Hanks for sure will definitely be remembered (probably Crystal, too), but not for OUR time. They were more 10-20 years ago. Johnny Depp will be remembered, DiCaprio should be. Hard to say who else might be, there are so many actors playing the same basic roles it's difficult to see anybody standing out.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

well, i associated "our time" with within my life time and the average age of people on the rpf.....i think the majority of our members are in the 35 to 45 range? maybe.....so i was trying to figure out who would be remembered in that period of time span...

well, billy crystal will always be remembered as one of the best oscar hosts

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

Personally I enjoy Johnny Depp in most of the things I've seen him in, especially Pirates, but I don't get the worship. I've seen a lot of actors do some really impressive stuff, like Kevin Spacey for example, and I've never seen Depp do anything like that. I haven't seen a good chunk of his work, though.

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

Can't believe no-one has mentioned De Niro or Pacino :confused

Chris Nolan should be rememberd too

Very one dimensional. Some of his later roles are about as exciting as the inside of a cereal box.

But he will absolutely be remembered as a Hollywood mogul.

And...

Re: Looking back 100 yrs from now

Hmmm I reckon in 100 years from now, and dont hate me for saying this, but george clooney jsut coz the ladies love him. Other than that Clint eastwood, Leo Dicaprio and Harrison Ford. Oh and Robert De Niro because the guy is a god ( I pretend the Fockers movies dont exist).

As for Johnny Depp, once had it, no longer has it, and basically isnt worthy of being remembered in the future, other than for being hunter s thompson in every performance he has done in the past 10 years.
