Loking for trooper or vader gear

I'm doing some research into some props for my home theater room, and possible costumes during Halloween parties or cons etc... What I'm looking for is not cheap but affordable costumes of Stormtrooper and Darth Vader. The would be on display for the most part but from time to time I may want to throw down for some DDR in costume (Dance, Dance, Revolution.... j/k).

I know people say Rubies is for s**t, but that's as far as my costume knowledge goes.

Any recommendations and or price ranges for such pieces?

All help is appreciated, my goal is to have "something" together by this coming Halloween.

cheers

For stormtrooper info and armor go to First Imperial Stormtrooper Academy.
This is the most comprehensive source for stormtrooper armor, join the forum and start reading. You will need to review a lot of information, but you will find out what armor is best for you and how to obtain it.

For Vader try the 501st Legion Sith Lord Detatchment Home Page.

Good luck with your research!

I'll second naatsirhc on joining the FISD and Sith Lords, even if you don't have any intention on joining the 501st. For stormtrooper armor, you'll probably be spending about $1000 on it when it's all done, depending on which kit you get. I'm currently putting an AP kit together and in the trimming process. If possible, get a kit that is already trimmed. You'll save yourself a lot of headache.

For Vader, the price tag is going to vary, but I've heard of people spending around two to three thousand to get it all put together. It also depends on how handy you are with a sewing machine.

Best of luck! :)

if you want affordable and good quality stormtrooper armor... you want an AP. :)
sent me a PM if you need a set. I can trim and assemble them as well. I can finish them too if you want.

I second this idea. Its not the cheapest but great for trooping/wearing. My sandtrooper is AP and it is very durable/hard wearing. As for the Vader , i have the Rubies on a mannequin in my home theatre with a MR FX saber and he looks great. I have modifiyed the costume a little to look more accurate , but if its just for display its a very affordable suit.

^This...for a Trooper.

Vader is tougher...tougher to find decent parts, more expensive to put together. If the PT Vader is good enough for you, then the Rubies is a good base. For an OT Vader....start saving.

Wow thanks for the replies guys/gals. Kev good to see another Ottowan around. Just so I'm clear the rubies vader is ok for display and/or as a base start but for the trooper you guys recommend other means.

I'll try my luck over at the other forums to see what I can find. I was looking more for affordability than total accuracy as a starting point (I hate waiting) but sometimes it's better to keep the A.D.D. in check.

cheers!

I would stay away from using the Rubies as a base for anything. I was one of those that picked up the Vader rubies thinking it would be good enough; but it's really just total crap and in the end I spent even more money replacing every part of it.

You're better off buying a good pleather suit that fits you better and is nicer quality. Plus anything is cooler than the Rubies Vader sweat suit. I think their body suit is made of vinyl and it's hotter than hell.
