Ok i've made some more progress, ive blended the colours a little more and added various washes.
I also added some blue and black to the nose piece to make it look more worn.
Does anyone know how to completely take the shine off it?

I've actually messed it up a little, put a bit too much black on and it looks completely different, too dark and messy.
But no worries it will give me a chance to change things round a bit and not make the same mistake twice! I think im going to leave out the white spirit for now, as i am using acrylic paints and as you said before they can be mixed with water instead.
I'll keep you posted!

Howelrunner, accurate or not, where did you get that casting? I love it!!!
Here's mine that I repainted to match the hero mask sold by Profiles in History:
Be great to have the lifecast of Jim Carrey in makeup to go with it, but I've only ever seen that available on GoldenArmor..... :thumbsdown

One thing to remember... you can go with acrylic over enamel, but I think enamel will react or not bond properly if you paint on top of acrylic. Best advise is simply to not mix using the two types on the same item.
That's the beauty with something that should look like old worn wood. You CANNOT make mistakes. If it goes too dark... you just use lighter washes/dry brushing to make it lighter... if it then goes too light... just slab on some darker washes/dry brushing. Always go with thin layers - don't slosh on paint, as all that accomplishes is loss of detail. Go thin, go varied... add in colors you wouldn't normally consider being something you'd use... it will all create wear and tear and depth and make it look really old and used. You cannot go wrong, as long as you keep things thin and simple.

Agreed. That's one super sharp piece. And the paint work looks awesome - like real aged wood.

I might pick one up myself.
But if your looking for an EXACT replica of the 1994 film version, this isnt it.
It is a different casting, but i still think it looks worth having! Will need a paint job though, the colours on eBay arnt accurate enough for me.

As IpkissMask said, it's the one that's most widely available on eBay and is made by OGRM.net (it has that stamped on the inside at the bottom). It's a nice sharp cast, but yes, all the painted version for sale are the wrong colours.

Looks a lot better, some great referance to, shouldn't be to hard to add the L to the circle on the front.i have some liquitex interference acrylic paint i think will work on the back
As for the base, i was told it was an icons base?, but i haven't been able to find anything similar

OKAY! Some very suprising progress made today!!
First, i decided to start from scratch and paint the Mask in different shades of green (light, medium and dark) and work from there.
And this is what i got:
I was pleasantly suprised but i thought it needed some brown and shading on the nose piece so heres what i just got back from doing:
Again, i was amazed at what progress i made in such short time.
And i have to say i love it!! I dont want to edit any of the colours but what i do want to do is take the shine away (but i really dont want to mess with the colours). Does anyone know how i can do this without making the colours different?
But i have to say, the pictures dont do it justice, the combination is perfect for me and i really like it.
I also managed to bring out the 'L' on the forehead slightly, just like the 'Profiles in History' Mask.
Now what i need to do is get hold of some colour-shifting paint for the back!! Any ideas?

That's won't dull the shine - in fact I actually use matt varnish to ADD a slight shine to paintjobs (I used it for the goomba in my avatar). There should be some kind of spray you can use to give it a matt finish - I know a lot of other people use it, but don't know exactly what it's called.

There was a post I read recently... I think it was on TheClubhouse about just that, how to dull a shine to a nice matt finish... but I'll have to look for it.
Again... don't mix brands. They might react with each other badly and ruin your paint job. Stick to one brand - in this case: Humbrol.

Ah... it wasn't as thorough as I remembered it... but here it is anyway: Dulling the finish
Not sure if you can read it if you aren't a member.
They are basically just talking about dull cotes - Testors & Kit Builders flat cote. I think it is what I've mentioned earlier by calling it matt clear coat. I think you should find the Humbrol equivalent of matt or dull cote.

eBay has a product listed called Humbrol Matt Cote. That might work, but I've never used it, so don't know what results it gives.
