Logan's Run Reboot

Seems Hollywood is having trouble thinking up original stuff these day. But in this case, I'll overlook it.

"Logan's Run remake will be 3-D if Joel Silver has his way"

Now if we can have a Blade Runner sequel, all will be serene in the world.

Well the book was way different from the movie (for one thing you cashed out at 21 not 30), and was very fast paced with a lot of action, so if he were to follow the book more closely, I'd be all for that.

I really am mixed about this. As stated before, the book is vastly different and the movie is a classic. I'd rather see a more accurate book-to-movie attempt than a re-imagining/reboot of the movie we all know. I keep thinking of the last Star Trek movie, which I thought was ok as a stand alone sci-fi, but as a reboot, not so good. That's my personal opinion, I know a lot of people felt it was perfect.

So with the 3D, will Logan taunt the runner with "Run directly toward the camera, runner!" instead of just "Run, runner!"?

Yeah, but "Don't trust anyone over 21" was never a political slogan.

Anyway, can't say I'm surprised at this. Next year it'll be smellovision and reboots of 1990s TV series.

In a few cases, I can see why some remakes can make sense. This could be one of them.

Go more true to the book (only reason I see to remake this) and have a 2D version I can watch without thinking it's trying to stick things in my face because it was 3D in some theaters.

I'm curious, what kind of message do you folks think another film should have to say these days?

Re: Logan's Run remake?

I've got no problem with it, they can put anyone into the lead role they want, I'll decide if I want to see it based on reviews of the plot, not the cast. They need to make a great movie with a great cast, not have a politically correct agenda.

Re: Logan's Run remake?

Isn't Latino Review the National Enquirer of nerd Hollywood gossip?
Do we believe this?

I don't want a female Logan. They are called SandMEN.

I have no problem with a new film, and certainly delighted with strong female leads... Jessica IS a strong female lead.
But in my mind if they do this... follow more closely the book since so much is possible now. That would be a reason to "remake" it.

Well they could call them Sandpeople...although that sounds a bit familiar?

I would like to see a movie that's closer to the book with the exception of the age of termination still being thirty instead of twenty one. That just seems too young to me, maybe because I don't find people that young all that interesting.

Re: Logan's Run remake?

They have been talking remake for over 15 years.
At one time it was to be like the book with Matt Damon as Logan.
It was on the cover of a few magazines.

And yes The Island was a mix of Logan's Run and Coma.

Re: Logan's Run remake?

I fear that they will ditch the message that the youth culture alone can't cut it. The book was a response to
that whole tune in, tune out, if it feels good do it, don't trust anyone over thirty 1960s counter culture.
Even the "flower power" symbol of the sixties became the "palm flower" of Logan's Run.
That you lose necessary wisdom and experience of maturity. That seeking pleasure all the time will not lead
anywhere good.

These days I kind of see some youth lost in their "palm devices", instant satisfaction with
these devices always within reach, setting up the next "hook up". Obsessed
with "selfies" and social networking. Never noticing much of the world around them.

Living in a virtual "city of domes" isn't it?

I think there is still something a new Logan's Run can offer today if the right people
make it.

Re: Logan's Run remake?

Its been a long time since I read the all books but they were far far better than the film or TV series. And I would absolutely applaud the choice of Emily Blunt as Jessica though my teenage heart will always belong to Jenny Agatta. And yes keep the flameguns!!! RUNNER!!!!!!

Re: Logan's Run remake?

IDRIS ELBA AS BOX PLEASE.
Logan's run was the first book that literally kept me up all night reading. I started it in late evening, (this was summertime or I would hve been screwed for going to school), and when I finished and went "Whew" and looked up, I was startled that it was daytime. A female lead...not digging the vibe, but if it's like all the other Logan's proposals, it'll die on the vine.
