Link Master Sword - I need painting ideas!

Hi guys, I've 3D printed a Master Sword for a friend. Ill post a picture when it's all pieced together. I dont really have much experience painting props asides from spray cans and I want it to look like this:


Any ideas?

So! I've been trying to build one of these as well. And I'm on board with you; I want it to look like that. My plan has been to do some variation of paper mache, then water color over it, followed by sealing it with some sort of ultra smooth, opal/pearl clear coat. I think it's definitely possible, I just haven't had a chance to implement yet. I'll be watching to see how yours turns out! Good luck!

Here's a photo of an official Nintendo Master Sword, SS version.

It seems the artist achieved the artwork look perfectly which is what I think you're attempting to do.

Not sure on any other way to paint your sword to achieve the look, but it is possible if you airbrushed it by using stencils to paint the 'blotches' and then just continuing to add layers over them. You may be able to do it too using spray cans.
