All,

Are all the risers/cradle arms the same size on the MR sabers? Im assuming each seperate saber has their own height? Im looking to get some made but am a bit unsure of dimensions.

Also, does anyone use cylindrical displays for sabers?

No. I only have one MR saber(Vader ESB), so that's only a small sample size of 1, but there are cut outs on the grip side of the cradle to fit better and the height is a little lower than the other one so that when it sits in the cradle it lays perfectly flat on the stand. I'm sure the other sabers with grips on them are the same(Luke ANH, ESB, Vader ANH, ROTS, etc), but I don't know about say Maul, Obi-Wan, Luke ROTJ, Qui-gon, etc.

I hope that helps.

I have seen cradles made of acrylic tubes cut lengthwise, supported by a smaller-diameter tube. A single cradle per lightsaber.

If you google "MOM Liughtsaber stand" youll see what he means.
First hit on Google is a RPF post. ;)
I offered these MOM like stands about 5 years ago, some of which I made light up.

Lucasfilm had used a similar design at the "Magic of the Myth" exhibit. At other exhibits, Lucasfilm has also used stands like MR's and I think at one time short vertical acrylic tubes cut at an angle that the sabers have been stuck in vertically.

I have never seen any cylindrical display case, but I think one would be cool. Do google for "Terminator Arm DIsplay Case" or "T2 chip" for ideas.

Wow...great minds! :cool Drew this up quickly couple of weeks ago.

Would love to see what you come up with.

I thought exactly like you Darth Lars, terminator styleee! Would look like a quarantine or contamination vessel. Very cool!

Back in the day, there used to be a custom saber business called Lightech Industries that made a vertical display case. Here's a pic of it...

I think it's pretty sweet looking and suspending the saber by the blade retention screw in the emitter is a nice touch.

Yes!

i wonder if there's a better way of holding it though? I like the clear bar to clamp onto but not all Sabers have the same size and not all use that retention screw. Only an issue if you're making them to retail. For a one off, you can obvs make it suit whatever.

99% of the custom sabers out there use a 1" dia. blade. However one could make swappable rods for the display case that works with 7/8" and 3/4" dia. blades. Also, 99% of the custom sabers out there use a blade retention screw to hold the blade in. So again, not really that much of an issue, even if the blade retention screw is a flush mounted set screw. Just make sure the tube stays attached to the bottom base so that the cap with saber are easily installed/removed from it.

Lighttech industries. Back in the days of EL sabers. That's s fun blast from the past.

Yeah sure, just thinking of the non custom saber market. Master Replicas, force FX and other static prop versions like Parks etc.

Trying to keep a real 'found artefact' feel to it and I'm not sure a bit of plastic sticking out the top does that. It's cool, but not quite there, for me.

Id like to see a clamp or cradle holding it delicately as if its and unknown and quarantined specimen in a sealed chamber. I think the art dept and prop guys on T2 got it spot on!
