LIghtsaber blade length???

Dude... whatch ANH and when Vader is battleing Obiwan... his saber is at least 5 feet long AT LEAST. The part where it shows the Falxon inthe backround, and they clash their swords together... right around the part when 3-PO says 'Come on R2. We're going." Vaders saber is like 6 feet long. Lengths vari from scene to sceen from movie to movie. But if I were to say, the "average" length is closer to 4 feet.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that most sabers had adjustable blade lengths.

A convenient excuse to play around with blade length to suit a particular scene...

Roger that. I seen it somwhere on a diagram of Lukes ANH nad Vaders saber that the shroud knob, and the bulb release buttons were, according to Star wars lore... the balde length adjustment, and the blade width or intensity.

I'd attribue the longer lengths to the rotoscoper of the day. George wrote and always maintained 1 meter, 36" for a saber blade. Look at the orginal props for the films, there is no way they were 4 foot blades. Your eyes decieve you, don't trust them.

I think Mauls were 30" or so, Ray asked for them to be shortened quite a bit, but when he was using one blade it was 36". All of the TPM-ROTS blades are 36" standard.

As for blade length adjusting etc...thats just giving excuse to the extra knobs on the graflex and MPP...silly really, since its never been shown in the films aside from rotoscope inconsistancy. If anything the extra knobs on Vaders allows for the blade to come out of the pommel end.

I always went by the book which stated a meter long and about the thickness of a thumb.

OK that would explain the shorter blades on mauls saber in the final duel THats all I needed to know thanks for all the imput :) I was asking because the fiberglass blades that I use wobble a little to much when I have them at 36 for my maul saber even though I am 6 ft 2 they are just to long I have them at about 34 now which is more comfortable.. They are the same length as the FX sabers looks good to me :)

For clarification... 1 meter is 40" (3.3 feet). 1 yard is 36".

Comfort is paramount though. I prefer 36" for my blades even though I'm not all that tall. For Maul's I would go 30". Even though I've been told it really isn't much shorter it looks right. Just like if you hold a saber like the Qui-gon promotionals in profile 40" would look correct.

In Star Wars rebels Kanan Jarus directly tells Ezra to shorten his blade for his height.
