Lifesize Watto

I was not looking for one of these lifesize Pepsi figures but I happen to be checking out Craigslist and I saw someone selling it so I offered him $150 and he took it. (I had to spend some bill money put aside for something "real" but what the heck I just can't pass up a good deal:lol)

I have never seen one up close and I am really impressed. Don't get me wrong he needs detail work but still, very nice quality. When mounted on the stand his head is about 7 feet tall, the stand is heavy and very supportive square steel, the base has a nice Star Wars plaque, and also a Brass Plaque with his name on it. Watto himself is well made, with a lot of detail (like great realistic eyes and actual punched hair for a beard.) His clothes and accessories are all real (fabric and plastic- not connected to him) and are movable. One of his legs has come unglued at the joint so I will just glue it back (the previous owner has it with duct tape:rolleyes.)

I plan to re-glue the leg and in general dirty him up so he looks more like a junk dealer on a desert planet (both his skin and his clothes are a little clean for my tastes) Overall very happy with the purchase:thumbsup

Damn that's a great deal. I doubt that I could have passed it up either. Good find!
That is a good deal... that's what I paid for one about a year ago from a guy up in Ohio - I was surprised (but pleased!) at the time, because they usually go for more... here's mine, with a different blue weirdo:

I've taken to collecting stuff related to characters I've got connections to now - Watto's been good to me over the years... :)

I started fixing him up. Applied a Black wash to give his skin some depth. Here is a shot from my cell phone of his feet the right has been painted with the wash and the left has not. Already I like it better. A pain in the butt process on something this size but what the heck. I will take some other shots tomorrow. I also plan to add in a couple shade of brown in spots and a light wash again with a sandy brown to give him a little of the lived in the desert look.:)

Funny the black line in the picture is the stand, makes it look a little like two separate pictures
- Thanks for the pic hosting WC

Congrats... I had heard that the Pepsi Watto & Yoda were fabricated from the original sculptures used to scan the characters for CG.... & the Yoda version was used in episode 1 & cast in silicon for the puppet Frank Oz puppeteered. Anyone know if this info is true?

Oh very nice catch. I've always wanted a life-size like that. A second-hand "Mom 'n' Pop" furniture store in my area has a life-size Jar Jar and Maul (they ain't cheap, though. I think the Maul is $1000 AUD) that I've always wanted to buy.

I think I am finished messing with him, at least for now.:rolleyes
Great work - makes me want to get you to do mine, somehow... :)

It looks like you're missing one of Watto's accessories, though - he should have two different greeblie things hanging from his belt - one on each side... the missing one is more vertical shaped than the remaining one...

Yea, He is missing a long tube thing with a cable (like one of those 70's headset ones) that connects to a small box on his belt. I figure I will keep an eye out for something that will work at Goodwill and add it sometime soon.:)

Here he is in the room. What is funny is that he looks like he is looking across the room at the lifesize Vader. Might be some fear there... you don't really want to remind Vader you once owned him as a slave.:lol

Thanks:)
It turned out really well, makes me smile when I see it there.
In the long run may be, dollar for dollar, one of my favorite pieces. All from something I was not even looking for.:rolleyes

Proudly ... I own a truly rare Lifesize Watto. He is part of my family and has been living in my home since the day I won him in a Pepsi contest. He hovers over the room just like he flies around his junkshop in the movie. Even though Watto is rather ugly, I have grown quite attached to his presence. The best part of owning Watto is whenever new people walk into my house, look up at Watto and after a brief moment of silence utter... "Wow". You other owners of Lifesize Watto's probably understand exactly what I mean. Right? :cheers
