Lifesize Mars Attacks Martian bust - Finished pics post #10

I just got this item through the mail this morning (thankfully Parcelforce aren't on strike too!) and had to share some pics. This thing is all kinds of awesome!

This was production made and used on set for tests. It's resin, filled with expanded foam, and it is HUGE! I already have a porcelain Martian Ambassador bust that was sculpted for the movie's promotion - I thought that was big, but this is the real deal, from the original molds, and it dwarfs the other bust! It's got to be seen with other things to really appreciate the size:

Sadly the neck broke in transit (you can just see it above) but it's an extremely clean break and will be easy to repair.

I'm looking forward to redoing those horrendous eyes and painting this baby up. :):thumbsup

No plans for making the helmet - it's a really weird shape and not an easily found item. Remember, I didn't make this bust, just going to be painting it up.

Speaking of which, I now have the "Art of" book which has some great reference pics, so will be starting to paint it now - with so much fading and blending of colour it's going to be a real pain to do without an airbrush!

Re: Lifesize Mars Attacks Martian bust - Finished

Well, a good 4 months later and I finally finished this bust. :thumbsup

I spent a lot of time filling, building up and resculpting the bottom of the arms and chest with Milliput - these parts either had chunks missing or were cast with hard foam and so absolutely FULL of air holes.

Using "The Making of Mars Attacks" book for the colour reference (thankfully lots of GREAT pictures) I painted the whole thing using paintbrushes. I'm sure it would have been MUCH easier with an airbrush, but I don't have one, so I made do.

The temple "nodes" were missing, so I found large buttons that were the right size and shape and filled the holes and added the semi-circular bump with Milliput.

Unfortunately this bust is missing the frill of tentacles that hang down from the cheek bones. These pieces would have been cast seperately (the underside of the cheeckbones feature a slot that they would fit into) and did not come with the bust when I bought it. If anyone happens to have these pieces (yeah, a LONG shot....), I'd love to complete this bust. Otherwise, I think it still looks good without them.

And here it is :):

Another outstanding job!!!

Any plans for partial clothing?? The green soldier's jumpsuit would really look good - Or even the ambassadors cloak - Now there's a challenge!!!

Wow! Mate that is stunning! Just as a raw cast this was a fantastic and rare piece, painted up like this it is truly outstanding. Great job! Must be really satisfying to have finished it up!

Thanks everyone, yeah, it's really good to have this guy finally done and lookin' pretty - or at least not sitting there with those horrendous eyes! :lol

It's a great idea, but, for now at least, I think I'll leave him as a grunt. The soldier's jumpsuit would be near to impossible for me to make (what material is it supposed to be anyway?), and besides, it would cover up nearly all of the torso. The Ambassador's cloak is more do-able, but I'll still take a pass on it for now.

Mars Attacks is one of the VERY few films that I think would be good with a remake, or rather, a reimagining. I love the designs, but I'd really like to see them in a movie much closer to the original card series - bring in the giant insects, the counter attack on Mars and the gore!

Or make a Dinosaurs Attack movie! :cool:thumbsup

Absoluteli amazing paint job!
I´ll display it with a dove on his shoulder...lol... before it´ll get fried by a raygun.
Cheers!
