Lifesize Karloff Frankenstein figure - finished (for now lol)

I thought I'd share a few pics of a lifesize Karloff Frankenstein's monster which I have been working on putting together for the last few weeks.

The big green fellow is nearly done now, I just have a little more padding to add to the frame, real hair to add and some weathering on the boots.

Here's how he is looking now:

Re: Lifesize Karloff Frankenstein figure - almost done

Thanks- I will add some extra weathering to the coat and pants Taz.

I think it is the cineart bust - I actually ended up buying two heads, one was a bit smaller than the other so I used the big one on the lifesize.

The arms are from MBPFX, foam fulled urethene - very nice items.

Everything else is scratchbuilt by me. Clothes were sourced at goodwill/charity shops locally then modified a bit. I installed glass eyes from www.glasseyes.com.

He stands at 6'3" - according to all available reference, Karloff was between 6'2 - 6'4 when in full costume (not as big as people think, but still fairly impressive in person).

Here are the main reference photos I used to try and capture his posture and proportions when building the mannequin:

Its alive ... its ALIVE !

Very nice Al ! That's bound to be a talking point when your mates come around ! I've always loved that sculpt, pondered getting one myself a few years ago but nothing ever came of it. Cool , very cool !

:lol Wow! I thought I recognized those hands. Those are my sculpts that I did for him back in `97. Very nice display you have :thumbsup

Great build!
I 've always wanted one, but the closest I got was almost getting an inflatable one"!$£!"$^"!£.

What did you do for the Asphalt spreader boots he wears?

EDIT: I was going to say I wasn't sure if he ever buttons his jacket, but I see that he did.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

Janders, for the boots I initially considered the 'monster boots' you can buy from costume stores etc., but once I got into the project I realised that they were nothing like Karloff's boots in '31.

Eventually, I cut a sole and heel from wood, built up the thick middle sole with card, resin and epoxy putty, then added a large pair of boots and epoxied (sp.?) them in place. Next, I cut the boot tops from an old pair of biker boots I had and glued them into the boot, to make them knee height. Then painted, sealed and then added some weathering. I scored the central line on each boot with my dremel, being careful not to go through the leather. Overall, I'm pleased with how the boots turned out. I wouldn't say they are 100% perfect, but they are pretty close to what Karloff wore, considering the materials I had to hand.

Well I've pretty much finished this figure.

I did consider going the real hair route but as a test fitted, I decided against it. May come back to that detail later.

Cheers Tom!

A little bit of upgrading on this figure - added additional weathering and I now have a couple of other '31 style heads I am trying out on the mannequin. Here it is with the cineart limited edition bust:

I have one of Howards busts on the way too, finished and haired - I'm looking forward to seeing how that looks on the figure.
