Life Size Wrath of Khan Spock

Looks nice, and I know how camera's don't always capture the true appearance of things. But I had a couple thoughts (if you want them!). Here's a comparison to show what I'm talking about:

The ears are off; you can see that the real ears followed the folds of the ear up to the point. Are they part of the cast or are they added on like the prosthetic ears worn by Nimoy? If they're already part of the cast, I guess they'd be hard to adjust. But i suppose they could actually be trimmed down and a pair of actual prothetic Spock ears could be added. I suppose that might even make it look even more authentic, since the ears would be makeup rather than part of the cast.

The eyes look dark, not sure if it's just that the eyes of the cast are less open or if the iris of the glass(?) eyes is too big. I'm guessing the former, but it's hard to tell. Also the eyelids could use some of that blue-ish eyeshadow Spock always had!

I also agree with the other posts about the shoulders/neck. You can see it in the pic I posted. Raising the shoulders should help get the uniform collar higher too.

Sorry, this is all nitpicking! It's just that it's a nice piece that could look even nicer!

Thanks for that Bloop! I agree with you on all counts!

The ears are part of the sculpt, so they would be s tad difficult for me to mess with but not impossible. I especially agree about the eyes and the shoulders, you really nailed the issues. I'll work on it a bit, particularly on these items.

I also want to say for the record, all you guys have delivered your critique incredibly nicely. That means a lot and I doubly appreciate it. Of course nothing is perfect and these comments are exactly why I post things. Keep them coming and thank you!

Wow, what a nice Nimoy bust! But somehow the wig is not right in my eyes! The form of the skull looks odd to me.
Compairing the last 2 pictures you can also see that the line of the front hair is also different to the 'real' Spock.

we just jealous we don't have our own spock heads.. years ago, people used to take publicity photos from the TOS or the movies and lacquer them into a wood frame. They were really sharp looking. I had one that was very similar to the photo that was posted above. Of course, I was living with my friend at the time (we were both major trek geeks) and a mutual friend walks in, laughs and says " you have one picture in the entire place and it has to be Mr spock!".

damn right :angry

:lol

The bust seems does seem a bit narrow, but it's not bad really. Is it hollow like a mask? if so you could try padding it a bit. You could also take a photo like the one above to someone and have them airbursh in some tones and stuff. That may really help allot too.

When it comes to stuff like this though, there's no do or do not, only try. If you're having fun, nobody has any right to judge. This is something your doing for yourself, and you should be proud of it! :thumbsup and you're asking how to make it better!

I have a few bones to pick with some of the cosplayers, but this is what it's really about!

^ Ha, I appreciate that metrosonus.

Yeah, I see his face is a bit narrow too. Keep in mind its a likeness and not an exactness. :lol

Thanks for everyone's comments and your help in making this better!

I think the hair would be an easy fix. Bangs need to be just a tad closer to the eyebrows and the sides need to be clipped up higher. The sideburns need to be angled more forward. Now another easy thing is to "green up his makeup" Spock had a very slight "olive tinting" to his face and neck.........as well as a slightly blue highlight above his eyes up to the eyebrows. I think that will make your Spock Pop!!!! Bring the trousers bottoms about half way up your boots rather than completely above them.

His neck appears slightly too long. To remedy that easily add just a tad of padding to the shoulders to "raise the shoulders) which will bring the collar up higher on the neck. You really need to change the undershirt to a spandex one with the padded ribs. If you hang tight, Anovos will be releasing a super accurate uniform and that would blow the whole ensemble to the moon!!! :)

Can't wait to see the changes. :) I love the sculpt by the way. Excellent project!!!!

Dave your advice is right on as well, REALLY appreciate it.

Today I played around with raising the shoulders a bit and it looks good. I will post pics soon. I will also take your advice about his skin.

Rock on!

Here is a crappy retouch of your photo showing the bluish highlights of his eyes and I altered the hairline across his forehead and raised the collar up just a tad more. :) Now tell me where I can get that awesome spock bust.

You did great job on your display & the likeness is really good.:thumbsup

It is a ton of work to get a lifesize piece finished & the effort is well worth the result.

Steve Neill (a member here) made the origenal ears for STTMP and sells casting from them. You may want to check his ears out, they should be pretty accurate :lol:lol.

Very nice display.

Ok, so eye shadow is on order and tweaked the shoulders a bit more, what do you guys think? I a little apprehensive about rounding his hair line, but its doable.

I can't thank you guys enough. I think the only case my feelings would ever be hurt would be if someone were to say, "it's terrible, get rid of it." Otherwise, everyone's comments here have been incredibly helpful and I genuinely appreciate them - they have ALREADY made this piece even better than it was.

I also realized his face looks long in my original pics because of distortion. When I stand back and zoom, it looks a lot different - and as it does in real life- less narrow.
