Leto II - God Emperor of Dune - work in progress

As a huge fan of the original Dune books there's a few things from the Lynch movie and books I've been wanting to realise, and for a long while Leto II, The Tyrant has fascinated me. Such a complex character from a great book. Only now with a 3d printer do I feel I can bring some iteration of his majestic grotesqueness into the tactile realm.

This will be Leto II towards the end of his transformation, his atrophied legs I may add later. I may revisit the design as there are alternative looks I'd like to explore, but this is something I can pretty much get going now as it's an old file of mine I can prepare for printing. I'm using a Peopoly Moai SLA printer which I've had for a while but only recently assembled and started exploring. So far it's been good fun.

So here's my design, how much of the detail will translate to the model will be affected by (among other factors) the scale of the piece. I'm thinking perhaps in the region of 20-25cm tall.

I've separated the model into the following sections for ease of printing:

There are three levels of quality the Moai will print at, for the head I chose the highest. My resin bottle says grey but unless it's a case of the pigment settling it would appear the contents are for clear resin, which as I understand doesn't print as sharply as grey, but perhaps cures faster and more evenly.

The head is 3cm tall. The details don't show well at all, so after priming I will upload hopefully a more representative image, as to the eye, it came out well.

The first upper body section I had to opt for the halfway quality setting as that was going to take such a while to print:

Again, hopefully the detail will be more apparent when primed (though at this stage I don't have any intentions at this time for a more considered paint job)

That’s kind of awesome. I found the initial books hard work, but I loved “God Emperor”. Didn’t he have an antigravity sled in that to get around?

Looks excellent! I like the way you resolved how his human/worm head would work.
(I have to giggle at the last picture, which looks like someone doing a Slimer cosplay.)
