Les Grossman Costume

Hey gang,

I need some advice here on where to start. I'm looking to pull of the Less Grossman costume at DragonCon. I've pretty much go the basics of the costume down. I need some help on identifying the sunglasses he wears. Any ideas? It also looks like we are looking for the following pieces:

1. Tuxedo shirt
2. Tuxedo cumberbun
3. Tuxedo pants
4. Blue/black checkered suspenders
5. Converse tennis shoes
6. Aviator sunglasses??
7. Bald cap and thinning black hairpiece (perhaps will have to make this)
8. Thug style jewlery
9. Nutless monkey...........wait......................I'll have to find someone
10. Oh yeah..........lots of Luda on the boombox! :)

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm already a slightly larger fellow (down 80lb's though). I will probably pad myself out a bit and also incorporate some major chest hair. The arms, I'm going to work with as I've already got some pretty impressive meatclubs of my own! :lol

Les Gorssman is awesome! I too will be watching your progress, once complete you got to post up your dance moves. Are you going to build the jowels and nose?

Hoping to not pull off that complicated of a look. I know the "pains" of foam latex and stuff..........just doing the bald cap for now!

You can buy Tuxedo shirts from outlet stores like K & G Fashion Warehouse, Burlington Coat Factory, Ross, etc. You may be able to find the cummerbund there as well. For the pants, I would check thrift stores and maybe check with your local Mr. Burches, they might know where you can buy them used (either from them or maybe a local source). Thrift stores are great for suspenders and other old-school accessories like that.

You would want to check with theatrical wig companies for the bald wig and bald cap. Many have websites these days...so I'd check Google.

Hope this helps. :)

Just be sure that you get a bald cap that is opaque. Some of the cheap ones work just fine, but some of the cheap ones are so thin that you can see the color and shape of whatever hair you have underneath and it does not look like bald skin at all.
Could be tough to tell what you're getting if you order it online.

Great costume idea. Start working on your dance moves. I smell a popular youtube video.

I cannot wait to see this done. So EPIC! The performance on the MTV movie awards had me rolling on the floor. I gaurantee this would be a big hit at any con.

go man , go.

can't wait to see this!!

his glasses were designer glasses. i found some for sale awhile back. i will see if i can find them again.

Yes, Goodwill is already my best friend for many costume pieces and accessories. I'll be checking several. Also, E-bay for things I have trouble finding in stores. Point taken on the bald cap. Good quality one. I'll also ensure I get a good quality hair piece or make my own (benefit of having a professional makeup artist as a close friend). I'll also be doing some makeup on the face, neck and chest area to help accentuate the look. The dance moves are coming and I'll definitely post some video of the shame........I mean event! Thanks for the kind thoughts folks.

Bow tie and cumberbun have been purchased. I'm running into difficulty with this tuxedo shirt. It seems to be a lay down collar style shirt with 3/4 to 1/2 inch pleats with a blue dot line going down each seam. Any assistance on that or the blue check/dot suspenders would be greatly appreciated. Also, instead of doing the bald cap, I've decided that a more "authentic" look is necessary. Where's my clippers! :)

May have a possible solution to the shirt. I may just use a fabric pen. Also, I think the lighting in the dance scene at the end of Tropic Thunder is casting the "blue" hue on things. After all, even the black parts have a blue tinge. I think most of this is just white, so the shirt is going to have black spots and the suspenders will be black with grey dots. I found those on Amazon! Whoohoo.

This is coming together.

go man , go.

Any luck on this? I'm leaning towards a black frame fade lens aviator style right now, but I'm hoping you'll find them and give me a heads up.

Bow tie, cumberbun, suspenders and shirt are here. Sunglasses, shoes and bling are all thats left..........oh yeah..........and the shaving of the head!!! MUhahaha. Should be fun.

Yes, we are going to use a silicone based product known as Skin Tight and build up the nose a bit. I have a pretty good honker already, but it is very pretty. I need to give it that broke nose look at the base like Mr. Grossman has. :)

So, a little skin tight and some makeup should do the trick.

Playa!!!!

Sunglasses (a workable version at least) have been bought.........first test photo's are coming up soon. Bling will be on the way by tonight most likely.
