Just about finished reworking my Spartan helmet sculpt into a Leonidas helmet.

I originally thought that all Spartan helmets were the same and that it was just a matter of adding the crest/plume, how wrong I was.
Some of the differences are subtle but all the main characters helmets are slightly different in shape. They apparently made 17 Leo helmets with different stages of deterioration.

My plan is to mould it with RTV next week and then do some coldcast (bronze) fibreglass pulls. I hope to make some rubber versions as well.

It's very easy to make that mistake, since the battle damage is what jumps out at first. There were actually seperate helm molds for each of the named characters. That's why a lot of times when you see a charater name on a screen used piece it dosen't neccessarily mean that character wore it in the movie. It can also mean that it came from the mold for that character, and a background Spartan wore it.

Tim Allen is the most knowledgeable person I know on 300 helms, so you might want to hit him up for some info.

Already have a while back, no doubt he does make a decent helm.

Have acquired some decent high res shots of Leo helm that have helped no end.

I've never noticed the differences between the helmets either, but my eye for details isn't that great.
That is really a fantastic looking helmet!

Klean klay, sulphur free.

To be honest, it's not the best clay to sculpt with (difficult to smooth out) but it's fine for this project.

I have been using plastiline for the Immortal mask, it is much easier to work with compared to klean clay. I think it may be known as chavant aswell but not 100% sure.

I found some chavant on ebay, I think Im gonna get it. should I use the soft or medium for a helmet sculpt?

I have been using medium! U can always heat it up to soften it if need be.
