Legolas & Tauriel - The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug

Early last year our daughter challenged us to enter the Armageddon (NZ's equivalent of ComicCon) Auckland cosplay competition... so we did, as HawkEye & Black Widow.
Our daughter entered as well, and happy to say we all came away with Technical Awards - our daughter in Novice and us in Open.

This year we're entering again, as Legolas & Tauriel.

My husband makes the props while I pattern and sew all the costume components.

Following are a series of photos of the construction thus far:

Thank you

... the husband's now assisting the daughter building 3m span wings for a Castel (Super Natural) cosplay for our daughter, along with flaming sword.

I see you made the daggers, and you have a sheath for Legolas, but how are you dealing with Tauriel's daggers being upside down on her back? I can't find any shots of that part of the costume...

From some of the photos from Weta Workshop and the costumes there, it shows one is on a sheath behind the scabbard on her belt, yes the other is across her back (diagonal left shoulder to right hip).

She only seems to have the second one on her back in the second half of the movie when wearing the hooded vest, so I have affixed the sheath to the vest itself.
The sheaths are fairly snug and curved so it slips into and stays without requiring any lashing.

I remember seeing you 3 last year, I was really impressed by the quality of the costumes and I am really looking forward to seeing how these costumes turn out :D

I am in the beginning stages of planning a Tauriel build for myself. What kind of fabrics did you use, and where did you find stills of the back of the outfit? Or did you pull them from the DVDS?

I'm a leaf on the wind.

This is a GORGEOUS costume. Wow! Thank you for sharing this.

What did you make the daggers out of, if you don't mind my asking?

Thank you for sharing! What a beautiful eye for detail :) I've been wondering what tunic Legolas is wearing under this scaled armor and leather cuirass. I like to keep some accuracy in layers in case some of the armor is taken off for temperature control. Did you find any reference pictures or did you kind of wing it? I'd love to see some pictures of the tunic by itself and/or the pattern pieces if you're willing to share. Can't wait to see more of your builds!
