Hi everyone.

This is my first post, so hope I'm doing this right.

This year I built my son a LEGO Halloween costume from the LEGO Ninjago series. He wanted to be the Golden Ninja Lloyd.
Since this was my first ever foam build I took some shortcuts and made things easy e.g. the fabric body. So it's just Heads & Shoulders.

Here is the finished product:

I'll post the build process below!

So I started with a reference image

And decided to build the sword first.

I drew a rough sketch and then created a template:

I then set about building the main sword blade and the dragon head guard. This was done with EVA foam.

In hind sight I should have incorporated the dragon head into the blade rather then attaching it in separate pieces, but lesson learned.

Here is more progress on the guard.
I carved the shape using a rotary tool.

I coated the sword with a matt black primer coat before spraying with gold spray paint.

The next step was the head. I templated this directly on my son's head

I managed to make the main shape from 4 pieces of foam.

A test fit:

Moved onto the back and shoulder piece, used a real Lego piece for a reference:

I wasn't happy with the first template shape so ended up re-doing this:

I even decided to make the sword fit into the back piece:

Re-purposed a star wars costume found in a charity shop with added gold trim:

I used the same gold material doubled over to create the eyes and drew the pupils with a black marker:

And at this point I called it done:

Welcome, Liam! You did a fantastic job on that costume and I really like how you used actual Lego pieces for reference. I made Ninjago costumes for my kids... wow... 5 years ago (doesn't seem that long ago). They were really into it when it first came out. The dragon sword was challenging for me because I was trying to translate 2D templates and carve it in 3D but it turned out great and we still have it. You definitely nailed it and the carving on the head is EXCELLENT! Thank you for sharing!

:) Thank you so much for the kind words! I'll definitely be sharing more of my work!
