Leather sword handle wrapping

I've started a project on a big sword. the sword itself is easy, but the handle is another story
the handle has an hourglass shape (kind off i guess) and had been ovally rounded off on both sides. now i need to find a way to wrap it in fake leather.
i've tried hours of drawing patterns but i just can't get it right.
please if anyone has tips on how you wrap your handle in leather share them here.
note: the wrap is one piece or 2 big pieces of leather, not a string wrapping around 500 times

Consider using a material that can shrink-to-fit. For instance, I used to wrap my knife handles and gunstocks in rawhide (the same stuff that dog chews are made of). You have to soak the hide in warm water and stretch it...then apply it and close it (I used brass tacks, but sinew or thread works just as well). When it dries, it shrinks perfectly to the contour of your piece.

I used that method to wrap asymmetrical stag antlers etc. and wrapped handles I never thought possible.

Not sure how helpful that will be in your case. Show us some photos of your situation.

problem is, the handle has to be light brown/bordeaux leather and i've been given some by the person that had it comissioned, i'll post some picutres friday, but i'm at the other house now and i have no access to the piece

Have you looked at tennis racket/golf club handle wrappings? Might yield something usable.

Good luck with your project.
