What I am making:

Out of:
Polystyrene and things

Anyway,
So I cut the slabs of polystyrene out today.
(And theres polystyrene fluff all over my workshop T_T)

All those pieces fit together to make the console that Sona is holding :3
JK I have to glue them all together, :|
And Yea, I did fail at that first piece of polystyrene, (Cut it by hand, lel)

Just wondering,
What can I coat the polystyrene in which I can sand down and make a smooth finish which is ready to paint on?

Good luck with it!
For something to level it out, I'd highly recommend maybe using sheets of polystyrene plastic. You can usually find it for sale in large sheets. I'd recommend buying a sheet or two then cutting out the various panels. Use superglue to hold it together. That way you're basically building a lightweight shell that you can be reinforced with your styrofoam parts.

Just a thought, anything you can "coat" it with and then sand will get pretty heavy, and it'll be difficult to get those nice clean edges. Using the styrene sheets will give you large smooth areas, then you can fill the small gaps at the edges with spot filler or other clay.

Good luck with it!

Seems legit,
I recut the whole prop again though, I thought it would be easier to not have to glue pieces of polystyrene together,
I went with paper mache to reinforce it a bit :3
It's gonna be fabulous~
