Latex appliance question - help needed

I recently bought a female superhero chest armor for my wife. I want to thin down some of the edges, its about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick.

My question is, can I "skiv" latex similar to the way you can leather to thin it down or can it be sanded? I dont want to ruin it, but its pretty thick on the edges. The armor itself is awesome, just need to be able to blend the edges in.

Use a cotton buffing wheel on your dremel. Go slowly though, because the latex will melt if you generate too much friction and then you'll get flying bits of liquid hot magma latex.
