Hi,
I,am a big Predator and I waited to finally see this movie. Hey this just my opinion but this movie
is a piece of ****. I asked Blockbuster for a refund and got it.
I know this movie was already discussed but making a movie of this caliber is a disgrace to all Predator fans. Looks like we need Stan Jr. and Arnold back for the Pedator last stand and I,ll say this, please no Alien....Predator can stand on his own!!!

PS. I have a pic of a Predator that my buddy fixed for me.
This Predator comes apart at the waist and the feet also
come off. This cool piece was shipped to me 4 yrs ago
and when they shipped it fron the east coast the mold was
broken in pieces. I was sick when I opened the wooded crate.
I found this guy to piece him back together and I,am satified
with the results!!

Cool! welcome! yah, that movie was disappointing....definatly. predator was tight, but thats it.

thats a very nice piece! I think the dreads look a little angry though. Thanks for sharing.

I wish the Strause Brothers knew about lighting. There are ways to bring up the midtones in the darkness, there are a lot of movies that look dark but u can still see some detail in the pitch black. AVPR totally sucked in this area. I got the 2disc set purely for the featurettes.

Welcome to the Lair! Love the statue... must scare the bejeebers out of any body coming upon it unawares....

The caption to the first picture could be "Where's my thermal netting, I'm freezing out here!!!!!!"

One last note is i,am looking for someone in the Phoenix area who can detail the face of this piece. I still have other touch ups to do and I,am happy I got it this stage so far.

I cant understand why everyone keeps saying they cant see anything on the movie. I can see everything just fine on my tv yeah its a dark movie but I can see everything just fine. And as far as the movie apprenty Im one of maybe 3 people that liked it. Ive seen it probably 30 times allready and am still not tired of watching it. It hasnt matched me watching the new Rambo movie like 57 times but I think its still a great movie.

I was disappointed in AVP-R because of the poor lighting also. In the sewer battle, half the time I couldn't tell when I was seeing the predator and when I was seeing an alien. In the special features of the DVD they say that they wanted to hide the creatures in shadow to let the audience fill in the details mentally. WHAT?!? We've known what aliens look like for nearly thirty years, and we've known what predators look like for over twenty years. Why would anyone want to hide them now? The "hiding the creatures in shadow" bit is for horror movies - AVP-R is a sci-fi/action movie. All we want to see from an AVP movis is predators fighting aliens... "see" being the operative word. Hiding everything in shadows was a bad idea. Of course, this horrible decision hasn't stopped me from buying the DVD and watching it several times. Let's hope they make another installment and that the predators are only invisible when they have their cammo activated.

I watched my friend's blu-ray edition on his massive hi-def plasma. I mainly wanted to see all the additional scenes, in the cemetary I knew the gravestone was marked "Hawkins". We looked hard but couldn't see it, my mate looked back through with the lightness settings up high and there is was. All the settings were perfect for all movies but AVPR just shows up dark. I hope the Strauses enjoyed their time in the sun because they should crawl away into the shadows and let real talent have a shot.

If I'm not mistaken, the S Brothers only previous directing experience was in TV commercials. Now, I realize I'm not a high-powered movie producer, so I don't know exactly what goes on in the meetings where they decide who to hire as directors, but why would you let newcomers cut their teeth on a franchise that has the potential to make money for decades to come? OR, if you make a couple bad films, turns into a dead end? I would have let the S Brothers do a low budget movie or work as ADs first... SOMETHING to prove that they had the skills to take the reins of a big-budget feature film. I didn't think anyone could do worse than Paul W.S. Anderson, but I would rather watch AVP than AVP-R - at least I can see what's going on. And I can always shut my eyes when the alien-tail-as-a-spear scene comes on.

Make that 4, i enjoyed the movie hey it's a classic.
Not my fav but,...
I have no probs either on my projection t.v or at work on our screens, it is dark but not that you cannot see anything.
I sure this was dissed in another thread when the film was released.
My 2 cents

yeah you could see what was going on in AVP but did we really want to see what was going on? If AVP-R had the lighting that AVP did and visa versa i would be happy. I could see Wolf kicking ass in plain sight (although i could make it out most of the movie) and maybe i wouldn't have had the complete dissatisfaction of seeing the Jay Leno looking linebacker preds in AVP.......

I agree on most of what you are saying. I still think its to dark, and there are some major mistakes in it, but I guess I was prepared to be very disappointed, as I was with the first movie, and maybe thats why I thought this was not so bad at all. I remember this lair before the any one had seen it, and almost ALL people on THIS lair was "ohhh its gonna be soooooo AWSOME" " (or how you american talks ) and after people had seen it, they where really disappointed. I remeber I told any one, dont get your hopes to high, because I would not get disappointed like last time when I saw AVP.

As I said before, I still think its to dark and there are some other major mistakes.
a. they way the predalien lay eggs.
b. there should never jhave been alioens on the earth.
c. the aliens grow to fast.
d. I miss the strong Danny/ arnold hero, dont really get a personal bond to the actors.

Yep there are more mistakes, but IMO this is the major mistakes, BUT all in all, they tryed to bring back the old predator and alien feeling, sounds, look and movement. In AVP they changed to much, both the sounds and how the looked, but also HISTORY! Telling people that predator was worshipped as gods and how they had pyrimids on earth, was just to much for me. This is how the future predator movies will be built on and I hate them for doing that.

I hope you get my point, its kind of when you have one favourite movie and they make a sequel that changes things in the first movie that you really liked.
I feel the same with scream1 and pirates 1, all the sequels changed things in the first movies.

Nagash, mistake d. isn't really a mistake just your subjectivity. Also a. intrigued me, how does the predalien usually lay eggs?

Atually b. as well, why shouldn't there be aliens on earth? I thought that was the tie to 'The Company's' knowledge of alien existence in ALIEN?

Agreed on the alternative history in AVP. Seemed like they could have made something good out of it but instead the idea came off like it was "Aztec Predators!!...Cool!...Ya!" at a breakfast table...

Turn off ALL the lights, boost the brightness of your TV, and it looks great. I watch all of my movies on a 64" threater, so that helps... But the lighting wasn't too bad, no worse than say, the first aliens movie... I think that was the look that they were shooting for. After all, most of the movie is shot At night, during a rain storm... I still enjoyed it...WAY better than AVP.

Is there enough good stuff on the DVD extras to Drool over ????

I could see the movie just fine on my TV, too (LCD HD with dynamic contrast), but my main problem with it was that it completely departed from the story set forth in AVP 1. The whole pyramid thing with the imprisoned Queen, etc., was an awesome backdrop for a good story. But with AVPR, having nothing but a small town being the backdrop really lost me as far as scope is concerned. I mean, at the very least put the government conspiracy thing in there more than it was. Subtle hints aren't what the AVP franchise needs. Story is crucial for these non-human characters because they can't speak - it's not Star Wars where most aliens can communicate with the audience and offer a deeper connection. You can't write a script like AVPR and expect it to work because if you don't even care about the HUMAN characters, how in the world can you relate to a movie like that at all?

Without good human characters, the AVP franchise doesn't stand a chance (goes without saying). That's what made AVPR so bad - bad acting and I just didn't care about any of the characters. The shock value was there and the gore was there, plus I just loved Wolf, I'm sorry...he's one of my favorite Preds of all time, but without a Ripley or Bishop or Dutch or Herrigan or any number of good characters played by GOOD actors/actresses, it's doomed to fail. That's my opinion.

The "von Daniken" **** was a bit too much and been done before (Paul Anderson skipped classes on Star Gate etc for sure) and the only thing that pulled John "Fistf*ck" Davis in is the wow-factor: it was radically different from what has been done before. Some fans bought it, some didn't.

I liked the flick as a standalone, but deep within I realize it is a nail in the franchise's coffin...

Besides, Anderson knows dick about story telling in a compelling way, but I got to hand it to him: he can make a 40-ish million dollar film look like it had about 80-100 dollar (well, look, the actors are another thing...), whereas the Strausse's presented their flick in crystal clear trailers and intro's (just take a look around, all pre-release material is very well defined and lit, sharp and crisp.) while the final release has this black wash over it, with poor focus... I dunno man, but that reeks of being a f*ckup...

IMO it is best to let the film sink in some more for at least 3 years, then kick in gear and get a Batman Begins-quality reboot. In space, where it should be. Human characters that are likable caught in the middle of this rampage...

Same goes for Predator IMO: bring him back by quality...

I agree there :p

What bothers me is the fact that we would have got more kickass fight scenes and some cooler stuff if only they had more money and time to work with . They did better than Paul but still not as good as it should have been. I seriously wish one of the fans directed the film next time around and then we would get a good movie :) .

On a side note isn't it sad that I got sad when the predalien died, and not when the humans died
