Folks, I have a question.

I tried making a Bapty blaster and it's sat on a bookshelf unfinished for ages. I grabbed some cast aluminum pieces (handle and rear) and ran into some issues.

1) I couldn't figure out how they used pop rivets in solid material. So.... are the real ones hollow?

2) This thing is insanely heavy. I don't enjoy working on it, or holding it, an can't imagine being an extra if this is really what they weighed. I had to add some metal near the front to balance it out, being so back heavy! If the front barrel is wood, how are the real ones balanced. Has anyone ever held a real one?

Honestly, that looks like a thick rollpin that can be driven out. I bet you can see all the way through the center of it. Special rollpin drifts are made so they stay centered in the center of the pin. The drifts have a small "ball" on the tip for centering. I have a selection of them I bought off the Matco Tools truck several years ago.

It’s not a roll pin. Rivets were used, and no the cast aluminum was solid not hollow. Pop rivets can be used in blind holes as long as the drill hole is the correct size.
