My cousin called me up a few days before Halloween and asked if I could help him build a Batman costume. Ive made leather costumes before for renaissance festivals and even some pro wrestling suits when I used to wrassle myself, but never made any kind of superhero costume. Ironically I had just discovered the properties of eva foam, so after reading threads on this site and three short days to work on it, this was the final result. He bought a BCG shirt and pant combo, the cowl from Amazon, the cape is a curtain. We made our own design based off of different suits from the movies and games, but trying to do it in the style of the 89 Batman. after molding the foam I sprayed three layers of Rustoleum rubber stuff, the kind that's meant for wheels. it had the right sheen and felt real smooth.
To attach the foam I used double sticky back tape, from Scotch and its grey and foamy. I primed both sides with super glue and attached it to the suit. The glue would make all the way through and stick to his skin! it really burned! I said its him bonding with the suit : ) I never read about this technique, I just hoped it would work and we didn't have time to experiment with other options. After pulling the suit off of his skin, the pieces were really stuck, I pulled as hard as the fabric would stretch. The symbol was made out of the real thin craft foam you find at walmart. He attached a hard piece of rollerblade wrist armor onto his gauntlets and gave it a nice detail and tactical look. For about 10 hours of work between two people, I think it came out pretty cool.
And that's me as Two Face!
