I measured more carefully before but this is roughly how I got it, making the ship slightly less than 8 Wankels long - praying that the topview is not that distorted.

I put forward a motion to make a 'Wankel' an official unit of studio scale measurement. :lol

Thanks for the measurement of the M23 part, as well as everyone else's information.

Also, I'd point out that you would need two Wankel kits because the port side engine has the very top tip of another half.

Ok so CJ comes in at 5ft 3 1/2 with the plating and I get based on mine and Martyns figures 5ft 4 3/4 without the plating. As well as the plating we have the aurora 1/48 m8 carrier pieces at the back to consider although it's only mm's. Still 8 wankels.

Simon you're still coming in well under my figures (67.5" is 5'7.5"). But that makes me the odd man out I guess. There's no plating overhang at the front or rear, and I'm counting M8 shovels.

Still fiddling with Wankels - my pic is scaled such that the Wankel's actually a bit SMALLER than CJ tells us it is, so I wonder what is going on here. :confused

I'm gonna draw this out on paper tomorrow and lay some parts and acrylic out on it. You up for some casting tomorrow morning? I need to cast up a couple of sealab parts of yours. I'll bring the rubber , resin and Beer?

There is someone who has had all the parts physicaly layed out on a blown up version of that pic, and who I believe could confim the exact size. When I say all the parts I mean every kit part.

He has chimed in once before, maybe he could get us started with the actual lenght?

Just a thought. Is it definite that the wankel part used on the model wasn't trimmed down in any way off the back end to get it snug in next to the Cockpit? - Just thinking that could throw out the relationship of the actual Wankel measurement vs the measurement being estimated off the model in that picture.

I can't wait to be able to get back into this properly again...:cry

The wankel engine half on the other side is clearly not trimmed down, and the same size.

I am having a go at carving the engine halves out of bolsa wood, to size for my next AMT/MPC, would you be able to take some pics of different angles so I can see the depth I had almost zero references the first time I did it. I could even have a go for your falcon, and I think I know a jedi that could cast it!LOL

I think that the picture distortion plus the slight tilt of the model on the upper view picture makes it a little difficult to come up with an exact measure.

I think the 173 cm long data might be very close to the actual truth, but I cannot get a precise measure. Here is what I have done:
In my calculations the Wenkel engine is 21,15 cm long. I,ve got this kit and made a drawing of it, here it is for ya fellas:


I also took pictures and scaled several of the bigger kit parts I've got for this monster and placed them on top of the top view pic. They seem to fit quite right when scaled to 173 cm.
It would be nice to have a better resolution version of this pic, it would help a lot to get sharper edges on the kit parts to make a better scaled version of the picture, anyone has got a super version of the picture?
This one I got it scanning my chronicles book (OUCH, I know...)

And any one has made a calculation on the height from the bottom gun turret to the upper one?
It would be nice if we could nail a nice bluprint on this beast. As said before I am willing to share my bluprints with everyone participating and helping on this thread.

Yeah, I am working on the height. Right now I have 11.25" between the roofs of each turret but I'm about to refine that, it's not correct.

I'll also be sharing any dims and drawings if they'll be of use. Won't be as nice to look at as yours, though!

In your collage are you using the 20.6cm length of the main part of the Wankel as given by CJ, or are you including the little pin deal at the back to give your 21.15cm length? Overall that could make a difference of over 4cm.

Yeah Nwerke you are right, without the pin is 20,6 with my caliper but in PS it gives me 20,8. So here is the corrected drawing:


About the gun turrets height I've got my in first attempt the height of
28 cm approx or 11,025 inches, quite similr than yours, but I still need to check and re-check.

Cheers, Rodmart. I've done a bit of rechecking and fiddling on the turret height and hull centre depth now. Hull/turret total height is 0.9583 of turret diameter (or very very close - I have good grounds to say this).

Would you say the turrets are 12" diameter or close? I get 12.014" at my 67.5" overall length or 12.13" at 173cm overall.

If that is about right then the turrets are 0.75" high on a 10" deep hulll, for 11.5" total depth.

Of course the turrets are closer to the camera than the edge of the hull, so they're slightly exagerrated. Ngggh, that thought's doing my head in, I need to go to bed. Have fun guys.

PS Simon mentioned above that the lower and upper hulls are not the same profile. We do suspect that to be true. It looks to us like the lower hull is pretty precisely 1/2" deeper than the upper hull.

If we're right, then we think maybe the domes weren't formed all that scientifically!

I've got similar diameters for the gun turrets mate. I scaled the Sculpting a Galaxy turret pic using as a guide the Centurion part now missing.
It gave what you can see in the pic:


I calculated for the plexy a diameter of:12,78 cm / 5 Inches
The cockpit tube gave me a similar diameter 15,24 cm /6 inches

Now I am trying to calculate the measure of the hull height and as Simon mentioned above the differences between both upper and lower hulls.
If the acrylic sheets were worked just by heating them and blowing them up to get the dome shape it is almost certain they are not symmetrical.
I think this asymmetry is what gives the Falcon that aged and realistic look.
