Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's**New Maps at start of thread**

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Hey fellas, anyone know what parts make up the Quad cannon assembly, just the cannons, not the turret base?. I'm assuming that some kit parts were used & not entirely scratched by the ILM modelers?.:confused

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Hi everyone!
It took me a little while to finish some new ID pictures but here they are.
First of all, thanks black pig for the CBR Racing picture, I meassured the Centurion part on the 57 Chevy Bel Air opposite to the one holding the CBR750 part and they are quite similar as you can see in the comparison picture. Would it be too much to ask you BP for scans of the CBR sprues?:love

First of all the centurion part on the Chevy 57:

Thanks again to SWGEEK for those wounderfully neat pics!:love

And now for some Ford Engine parts. These parts come frome the Tamiya 1/12 Lotus JPS but you can find them in other Tamiya F1s like the McLaren M23 and others. I've notice that the McLaren M23 has one part used in the Falcon that does not come with the Lotus. I'll post a pic of that part soon.
I know most of the Ford Engine parts are already IDed but I think I found some more so here they go:

Hey nice job Rodmart.

I'm up to my eyes in plaster dust and half fitted kitchens at the moment, but I've noted these finds and will update maps when I can.

MF 020A

Mitsuwa 1/48 Hunting Tiger appears to be closest in terms of features. I still need to get my hands on a Handley Page for size comparison, although I may be able to check against a Pontoon Bridge.

Also, I am not entirely sure how the hull was cut, as the part seen on the MF appears to have a margin where the turret starts.

The kit has been re-issued in recent years by Aoshima with a slightly modified tooling for the hull bottom to accommodate their gearbox. The included remote box is also different but could be the same as the one that Mitsuwa was offering separately.

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Hi everyone!

Gort I found the tank deck for MF022:love! It comes from the Tamiya 1/35 Chieftan MK V. It's a section cut out of the hull. A part of the same section is seen in the middle of the butt of one of the Y-Wing models.
I am not sure how the section used is cutted off from the hull, I need more pictures.

In MF010, partrs #1 are from the Centurion except for the one resting beneath the Revell 1/32 Phantom landing gear, It belongs to the Chieftain too. They can be found inside the Centurion bottom hull too, behind the Sherman part.
And just above the Chieftan parts there is another part from the Bandai 1-48 ZgKw 8Ton.

Wow!
I've never seen kitbashing on this level! Thanks for posting all the images.

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Hi Gort, hi to everyone!

Here is the first section of the 5 foot Falcon blueprints I am drawing. My Idea is to make a complete Blueprint of the falcon, with every kit part drawn to full detail.
I started with the inner mandible because I have most of the kits used in this area and the big Chevy 57 donor part is very useful to estimate measures.
I estimated the height of the mandibles -without counting the Kenworth C 123 parts- to be in between 5,1 and 5,2 cm. If anyone has a different calculation please let me know.
The Idea is to complete this blueprint with the help of all of you. Comparing notes and sharing pictures of the kits needed. The mandible section counts with one part drawn thanks to the help of Black Pig who kindly post the picture I asked him with measures of the part of the Honda CB750 used on the right mandible...Thanks again BP!:thumbsup
As you can notice there is a part missing on my blueprint, the American LaFrance Chassis part. If any one can help me with a good scan of that part and the measure of its length and height it would be great.:love

If any of you guys posting in this thread wants a full resolution (200dpi)
real size version of this section of the blueprints send a mail and I will send it to you!
hikaru84@gmail.com

I will continue to post the blueprints as I advance, and with the help of Gort and his work, and all the Falcon-addicts posting in this thread I am sure we will nail this fine spacecraft!

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Now that is very impressive, Rodmart. I don't think I've ever seen this done in such a precise way to a Star Wars model. And I would take a guess that the mandible height would be 2 inches - or 5.08 centimeters.

I've been reading what you and others have posted and been researching the Falcon myself, trying to learn to get myself up to speed on this ship. Email on the way!

I added three parts from the Hasegawa Sherman to this image. Also the two boxes at the very top and bottom of the rings are actually the dishwasher from the Sealab! I have a question for you guys: was there an older Hanomag release? The ridged plates highlighted in yellow are not on the tooling now at least.

Wow!!, many, many thanks Rodmart for doing those fantastic schematics mate, that is true dedication to the cause!.
To have a full set of Falcon schematics such as yours would just be heaven, so I really hope you keep going with these.

What is really frustrating the heck out of me, is the fact that the Falcon in it's current state it would seem looking at various members ref pics, is a sad reflection of it's once proud state. Looking at the limited number of pics I have in it's original condition & now, it's obvious many parts are missing, been replaced or just left off altogether. My aim is to have a Falcon in her original condition, which brings me to ask the question, does anyone have really good ref sources of her as new?. Would love to know!.
Cheers

Thats quite right Eagle1, I,ve been looking into that matter too. I have found some of the parts missing thanks to 1970's pictures of the Falcon and wanted to bring that up here.
I am sure there are plenty of good ILM pictures of the 5 footer, the ones that appear in the Chronicles book would rock in a higher resolution and without the offset dots.
I remember reading a thread of how to color the ESB Falcon by someone who worked in the MR project and he said they gave them a lot of reference pictures of the ANH Falcon brand new as reference material, wouldn't it be great to get to see those pictures:love.

I scaned the top view picture of the Falcon from my Chronicles book (OUCH!) but the offset printing blurs the details so we need a better source.
At least this scan helped me to compare it with the AMT shape for an upgrade I am working on to my AMT Falcon. It's quite good by the way.

It would be great if we could manage to collect the ILM reference pictures of the ANH Falcon.
Another picture that helps is the one on Sculpting a Galaxy, a full page showing the smaller falcon in comparison with the gun turret of the bigger Falcon, ther you can see a Centurion part that is missing and others next to the Mazda rotary engine parts.

Here I leave you the scan:
(For a better resolution of this scan just mail me)

incredible work. I'm ready to send someone money to help buy kits to help ID this huge thing. This might end up being my retirement project.

Nice work Christian, the talent around here is just incredible!.

Getting back to what I was saying regarding the condition of the Falcon as how she appears now, I feel one of the worst areas to have suffered damage/loss of parts/replacement parts is the upper gun turret. It is really quite staggering just how different the detailing is now, compared to her original condition.
I'm pretty sure that the 2 main gun halves of the Tamiya 1/35th Semovente Tank were used here, but are clearly missing now!.
Can anyone provide a scan of the sprues from the Carro just to compare guns, I don't have this kit but they do share the main running gear & a few other parts but would be great to just see the differences in main guns.
Cheers

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

You're quite right Eagle1, It is the Tamiya 1/35 Ssemovente part there, but just one half of the main gun at the right side as you can see in the picture. The other one I do not know were it came from.
I marked some of the other missing parts .
Other sections that are missing a lot of stuff are the Mandibles, you can see a lot of black shaped areas where something was stuck there before.

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Thanks for the heads up Rodmart, that clears up the Semovente part then.
I'd always wanted to know that Fujimi part too, so thanks for that mate.
Oh, & thanks for the scan, it's perfect!.

Just got a Centurion, lovely kit & what a donor of parts for the Falcon it is!.

It will be a real challenge to ID all the 'missing' parts in time, may just have to guesstimate donor parts & go from there.
Cheers
Stu:)

Re: Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's

Love your work guys. I'm very much looking forward to seeing a blueprint of the 5-footer someday, Rodmart. I just know you'll get the hull curvature right. Photo from my kid's (uh, ok, my) Star Wars ABC book.
