Kylo Ren Hasbro Force FX Lightsaber

bought one while i was drunk at Target today (last one on the shelf). managed to get the CSR girl to still accept my expired Target FF coupon too. just woke up and i installed the batteries...it's nice. good weight and looks/lights up good. i'm not picky in regards to the size handle/hilt (then again i have large hands). the only BIG negative is that the sound is complete garbage. and after comparing it to my Anakin MR saber, it's much much worse. hopefully there's going to be a speaker mod (or a product recall).

The guy who posed a conversion tutorial for it over at TCSS stated in a youtube vid that he also did a speaker and battery mod. Unfortunately that is not part of his tutorial.

I'm actually planning on adding a new speaker into mine soon now that I have the blades done, shouldn't be hard at all to be honest, the speaker is housed in the battery compartment and there is a small tab to access it.

I need to pop it open and measure the speaker size before I order one, I know there are quite a few on customsabershop that should fit in there, but we shall see.

Yes! I finally found a local Target store that had 3 of these in stock. I didn't want to miss out again so I drove straight there after work @0800. The reviews are true, those speakers are super weak. It sounds a bit muffled. Hope someone offers upgrade services for this saber, it surely needs it.

I'll try to take some pictures when I upgrade the speaker on mine, shouldn't be too hard. I've yet to crack open the case to see the speaker size, but there should be a few equivalent speakers with more 'oomph' to put in it.

Woke up to a nice email this morning from my boss telling me to take the day off - maintenence on our servers and some of us weren't needed for the day.

Nice opportunity to head out and see if any stores restocked any TFA merchandise.

Would love a 3.75" Phasma for my desk at work.

Anyway, I am in my local TRU as I type this and the UFX Kylo has popped up in here...

..with the great big price of $69.99.

Sorry Hasbro - but you've failed again.

This thing is not worth $70 + tax to me.

I took some quick pics and a short video to highlight the scrolling and the sound. Will update this post when I get back to the house.

TRU has a tendency to jack up the prices on popular items, that's probably exactly what is happening here.

Here are the pics from today:

The cross guard blades are short - maybe 2.75 inches max with a slight taper.

I could be wrong but from what I saw behind the cardboard, the pommel detail and 'fins' seem to be a single mold.

The red cable is molded and the activation switch is the round, gold 'button'.

The speaker was nothing to write home about. The sounds were generally flat and slightly muffled.

The 'on' scrolling was pretty slow. The three blades flicker with the 'clash' sounds. There is no idle flicker or pulse.

The main blade scrolls on before the side blades, which is a good thing, I guess.

The overall quality is in between the basic non electronic and electronic bladebuilder sabers. In hand, this is NOT worth $70 + tax.

Here's a quick video from my phone.

2.75 inches for the cross blades? Is this blade smaller than the Disney Store Kylo Ren lightsaber? (which tops off at around 34.5 inches in length)

I like the size of those side blades better than the FX< which seemed much too long.
