Kuhn Global 'Death Star II'

Don't forget to add the A-Wing that took it out, of course you'd need a microscope to see that. :p

Oh of Kamikaze gnats...:D

Kurt and I discussed the possibility of adding some lights that wink on and off at random to simulate welding arcs.

I like this idea, but again...when you're looking at something this large, would you necessarily see that from any appreciable distance ? It's that scale factor again. It's like trying to spot the arc of a single welder in the city of Los Angeles from an altitude of 35,000 feet.

Hmmmmmm, instead of them people welding which I agreed cannot be seen on this scale. I think flashing lights to simulate the battle going on?

Darn, didn't realised the SSD will be a grain of rice on this scale. Thought it be like a good feet long. Coz I was also gonna ask if you guys be adding them SD, Calamari Cruisers, USS Enterprise and McDonald's in there somewhere too. :D

But anyhoo, this half complete DS itself will be a very, very sweet model to have in the living room.

In a party, can act as a disco ball or what they call it. :D Sorry guys, I can't help it. :D

I think the less embellishment the better.

Believe me, this thing in a 4 ft diameter will NEED no embellishment. The model will speak for itself. Also remember that it is a static display for a personal museum. ;)

Nice looking test you got there. :thumbsup

This is going to be sweet and I look forward to your progress.

Will you be adding a colliding SSD? :D :D

It's a great suggection if the DSII wasn't sooooooo huge. Bob say it's supposed to be over 100 miles in diameter... so a 5 to 12 mile SSD wouldn't be seen enough I guess. Maybe a peice of rice? LOL
[/b][/quote]

Actually... ;)

I did some quick calculations, and the Executor would be about two inches in that scale. Is there a Micro Machines Executor?

Chronicles has the ship size comparison gatefold charts.

In these photos, the DSII is 9" in diameter, and the Executor is about .4" long. If you take Chronicles as canon, and do the math (If I did the math correctly.) the Super Duper Vader Sled comes to about two inches -- Micro Machine sized.

Well, I can certainly make a 2" Executor out of sheet styrene to scale.

But...I won't be building a fleet of destroyers to go WITH the Executor. The SSD would be nice for scale reference, though.

If directed to do so, I'll make one. Let me fetch my loupe. :D

Of anyone to do something this small and great,.. it would be you. It also would be nice to see done for scale for sure. Especially since that is one that will be done in studio scale in the future for the collection too. This project kind of took it's place in line..lol. It would be displayed next to this project to show size diff.

Suspending it somewhere just above the equator on the dish side may be a consideration. Lots of time to consider that one. LOL.

All it would take is a teeny hole in the Death Star....and a stiff wire.

I'm sure you guys know about this already, but the original Death Star model was "rescued" and is in someone's personal collection. There's a few pics of it here:

Don't know that it's of any real use, but FYI :)

PS - I know it's the Death Star and not the Death Star II, but I figure they've gotta be somewhat similar...
[/b]
Oh yea... we've been following that one too. :)

Thank you for telling us about it though. Very Kewl. :thumbsup :) :thumbsup

I love participation. :D

You guy have probably seen this...

Less than a foot in diameter, but cool nonetheless.

Oh yeah. Vicenzo did a fantastic job. I've seen this project before and not only is it an inspiration for the SS KuhnStar II, it's a guide for some techniques I'll apply on a larger scale.

It's top notch work. :thumbsup

After some careful discussion and thought... we have decided that the REAL studio orientation is the proper venue for this beastie. It will then display it as suggested,... up against a mirror to show how it looked in the film.

This will probably be the last post on this until it's start in march 07. But then.... LOOK OUT. LOL.

Bump up for Lighting Test 6. These are actual backlit tests taken on a light table with a FL tube behind the acrylic test piece used in tests 4 and 5. No Photoshopped lighting effects this time. It's all in-camera.

I had the time and the ability to do a test. ;)

It's encouraging.
