Kuhn Global 'Death Star II'

I was tinkering with the idea too. My thoughts were to buy a pair os spun brass hemispheres and use some etching compounds to put the surface pattern and cut edges into the model.

Never got past the price for two hemispheres at 24". $300 each.
[/b]

We'll be dealing with hemispheres 4'6" in diameter..

So...

March is right around the corner... is this project still going to start on time? I am excited to see what you all do with this.

-Bryan

This project is on indefinite hold. Doesn't mean that it's cancelled though. Some personal issues as well as financial issues have caused some unforseen difficulties.

Kurt and I are still excited and dedicated to bringing this thing into solid reality, but our initial estimates for starting this was a little optimistic.

Sorry about this...

Hi Bryan.

It seems this project may be placed on the back burner for a bit. There are other projects taking front stage during some decision process of this beastie. ;)

Thanks for remembering. It will get done. :D

Maybe a DS1 as an appetizer...?

In all seriousness, I may be tackling the first Death Star in the next 6-12 months...

Yeah Rob. I was thinking about doing a 1/3rd scale ( 1 ft diameter ) DS I for myself as a warm-up exercise. It's a seriously great idea.

I'm really hoping to follow your build. I absolutely love what Lasse Henning did with his...

Look forward to seeing any and all Death Stars. ;)

Btw, love your sig Hand, I'm working on something Final countdown related at the moment.

" Splash the Zeroes. I say again... SPLASH THE ZEROES. "

I can safely say I've served on the largest REAL sci-fi set in existence... :D

I suppose you're not at liberty to discuss just what it is you're working on... the Chris-Craft yacht perhaps? :p

You served on the Nimitz?.......Cooooool.

No, not doing anything as grand as the yacht, just doing a little something thats been in my head for a long while.
Pics will follow. ;)

You served on the Nimitz?.......Cooooool.[/b]

In 1992 and 93.

Here's the funny part. Just before I joined the Navy in '88, I built my younger brother a model of the Nimitz and told him that's the ship I'll be on. Of course anyone who's been in the Military or who is a dependent knows this ain't how things work. You go where you get orders to go...

Before I did a WestPAC on Nimitz, I did two MED ( Mediterranean Sea ) Deployments on Nimitz' sister, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower ( CVN 69 )... so I missed Nimitz by just one boat and hull number.... then I had a friend who was on Nimitz leave the Navy, so I put in a transfer request to take his spot... and it was approved... and that's how I got the Nimitz.

What was also funny is that even while I was on IKE, I had another friend on the Nimitz buy me one of the Nimitz ballcaps from the ship's store there... a cap I still wear proudly today 17 years later and from which I made my current avatar... So when I got transfered to CVN 68, I already had the correct attire. That's my story....

And why did I want assigned to Nimitz? Because of The Final Countdown, of course.

Oh... my signature? It's an inside joke we male Sailors have. WAVES are female Sailors... :love

On the "Ike" in "88. What dept. I was with V-1 frm "88 - "90. Small fringgin world. :D I still wear my Ike hat. It's a bit worn though.

No kidding.

I was AIMD. Up in 64B in the Vans. Did you make the Centennial Cruise in '90?

Here's a pic or three for ya. I must have shot about 40 rolls of film on that cruise alone...

This was me posing next to the Meatball. I think we were anchored off the South of France ( Cannes ) when this was taken:

And if you made the '90 cruise, then you probably remember that first trip thru the Suez Canal:

I have to tell you, I do miss Ike's chili bar... Man... that was some good chow.

And who can forget getting 'Ike-cited' about having to wear our buttons?

( Ok... so this thread is getting a little sidetracked, but it'll get back on track. )

Oh... and all of my IKE ballcaps are still in pretty good repair. I gave my Dad an Officer's cap with the scrambled eggs on the bill. He still wears it.

Talk about a small world.
So you guys both served on the Ike at the same time?
Well I'll raise my VF-84 mug to both of ya.
:cheers

At the time, on IKE, our Tomcat squadrons were the VF 142 Ghostriders and the VF 143 World Famous Pukin' Dogs.

[/b]

Hey Jason.

Yea,.. my PM has been turned off for months now. Needed to concentrate on things at hand and couldn't spend time answering unfortunately. I would love too,.. it just takes a bit too much time that I don't have right now I am affraid. I look at the boards a few times a day for relaxation to see what's upwith all the talent. LOLOLOL.

Though this beastie has been pushed a bit back,..it will still happen. ;)
