    Hey everybody,

Forgive my newb-ness if this has been discussed before, but has anyone tried making a Mandalore-style variation on an Imperial Guard helmet like the ones shown in the KOTOR games? I don't have a pic handy but maybe someone else does?

I'd like to make one with a two-tone red paint job. Any suggestions? Anybody make cheap fiberglass of the Imp Guard helmet?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Like the guy in the lower left: [IMG]

good idea, I would cut a t shape into the visor and replace with a facemask. Not only would it look pretty sweet, It would definitely help differentiate the mask from say a Crimson Empire one. I dont think anyone has done a KOTOR mandalorian yet. What about Mandalore from KOTOR II? wasnt there like a gas mask attatchment? that would look great too. I wish I could help more with the fiberglass part.

That's cool too but a lot more work. Here's another couple of pics I found of what I'm thinking:

I think it would be a REALLY easy conversion. The nice thing is, the masks don't have to be in pristine condition like the Imp Guard ones do--they can be as beat up and pitted as a Boba bucket. I'd really like to get one like this but I have no fiberglass capability.

I have a lot of personal interest in the EU projects, this one would be cool. Unfortunately I do not have the time or resources to do my own work but I will buy something if I really like it. Keep us posted on this project if anyone decides to go ahead with it.

I'm trying to guage interest in this here to see if anyone will take up the challenge. I figure anyone with access to an Imp Guard helmet and the ability to work with Fiberglass to do a casting could do this pretty easily and if there's enough interest, it might justify a run. I'll keep this thread bumped in the hopes that the right person sees it. In the meantime, please post your interest here.

LOL well I have two characters, one's a Jedi and one's a Bounty Hunter. I wanted to get one prop for each of them to add to my collection. I've got Ryan over at randomsabers making me a saber hilt I think looks similar to what my Jedi character uses and I wanted to get a Mando helm to match my BH's Fett-style bucket. Now that SWG is going to introduce KOTOR style mando armor, I'm gonna get that for my BH character and hopefully have a matching mask made.

SWG is a terrible game and getting worse by the day, but I have to think up my own content and reasons to play lol

I know--I'm sad to say I'm a respec Jedi but I've played since launch back in '03. I've only held on as long as I have out of love for SW but man this game gets worse daily. I hate grinding (which is why my char never made Jedi in the old days) but I've done every quest and gotten every non-profession badge you can get. There's just nothing to do and less and less people to do it with. I don't imagine I'll stick around much longer. It's gonna be a long couple of years waiting for SWG2 by Bioware...but I have it on VERY good authority that it's coming. I just hope it's set during the KOTOR era. That would be amazing.

I dont think id personally want one but I am interested in seeing it done, when I went to celebration II I was excited to see Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax. And the two Cylons that I only saw a glimpse of and never saw them again.

The one from KOTOR looks a bit different than what you're showing in those Galaxies images. The Galaxies one might be easier to make, since you could just hack up an Imperial Guard and be most of the way there, but I think the distinctive look of the original would be pretty sweet if anyone was willing to take a stab at it.

Yeah I totally agree--the one from KOTOR is a lot bulkier and looks very distinctive but it would be a much bigger undertaking than a simple Imp Guard customization. Has anyone ever done custom-order Imp Guard fiberglass helmets before? I'm just wondering if there's a pre-existing mold out there somewhere.

EDIT: Here's the one from KOTOR on the right:

there must be someone out there that will make a mold for you. Have you tried ebay for a royal gaurd mask? I know that you want a fiberglass one, but Id almost think just a standard don post that you could customize would be better. You might be able to find one on some obscure site, I used to do searches for CA vader masks and id sometimes find a place that had one...of course theyd want about 800 dollars for it, but, its worth a shot. If I knew how to make a fiberglass version Id make a mold for you.

Oh, I'm still around. Up to my * in alligators, with scant time for pursuing the hobby, sadly.

I still knock around SWG a few times a week, but frankly, the ground game is geting a little boring. Plus, the proposed Jedi Experise tree is a bit wanting, IMHO. I'm always on the tipping point of suspending my account and going over to WoW.

Right now my only goals are to finish up the HK-47 Quest, to farm glowing items to make (and sell) lava crystals, and to loot the new 5th Gen saber hilt off the Emperor's Hand in Restuss.

After that, I dunno. I stayed away from the space game until I picked up the Saitek X52. I might have to start getting into that - if for no other reason than some ground-based quest series require a space mission here and there.

Well GeneralMayhem can do the casting and we have a list of potentially interested people who might spring for a helmete. I have a few people willing to lend their DP Royal Guard helmets for casting.

Let's get this show on the road.

I'm not sure how these runs begin, but if anyone has the experience who can orchestrate the whole thing, post here. MasterVader, maybe you can post what you would anticipate the expense per helmet in materials/time and I'll communicate with the people who have offered up their helmets for casting. Is that a good start?

Well since I started this whole thing, I don't mind picking up the shipping expense, maybe prorating the shipping amount off the cost of my helmet if there winds up being a big enough run for GM to make a fair profit from the project.

I had a mishap with the glove mold ripping a while back, and since I sent the original helmet back to Dex, I'm cleaning up one of the early test casts to remake the mold in a more flexible variety silicone. Thanks to those who have ordered one for your patience while I redo it and get your helmets to you.

The second glove mold went OK. I'm in the process of laying up the resin on the second one of the two I owe Dex for loaning us the original to make the mold, and I'll be pulling helmet castings as fast as I can manage. I expect to be shipping the first of them later this week, and others as fast as the one mold will allow.

Sorry again for the dalays. I really thought I'd be done with the run and on to other projects before now, it's taken more time (and resources) than I expected.
